Hawke 3-9x40 Vantage AO on sale $87

DVOR has these on sale for the next two days and seven hours. I ordered one to put on my 177 Hw95.. I have one that's all banged up that I use as a shop test mule. It's been on multiple R1s and dozens of other springers and keeps ticking. It's why I posted this in traditional airguns forum.

Technically the Vantage line is only rated for 12fpe springers. They will still warranty them. My experience with them is excellent as long as there's no barrel droop issues.

I prefer the 2-7x32 on the Hw30s. IMO the 3-9x40 is more than you need and looks and feels top heavy. That's just me, you do as you wish. The 2-7x32 come up on sale pretty often as well

I was actually hoping they had the 2-7x on sale too but they didn't. Honestly its for the best. 9x is nearly the bare minimum magnification that allows me to holes in my targets at 50yds and I hate having to break out a spotting scope.

I understand. In all honesty I don't often shoot paper groups at 50 yds with my Hw30s. I generally save that for higher power air guns that usually wear 3-9x40s. I do plink cans and spinners out to 100yds with my Hw30 and a 2-7x32 works fine for that. I guess that's why assumed the 2-7x32 would be a better fit for you.

Fwiw if you shoot paper groups at 50 yds you're better off getting an Airmax. The glass is a little better and the reticle is much finer for target work.

I have one 2-7 x 32 on my HW50. That might change to a new 2-7 x 32 Airmax I scored on eBay last October for 97.15 delivered w tax included. Nobody else bid on it.

They were like 70% off. I don't want to do math right now but basically I got two for a little more than the price of one.

I'm a big Hawke fan. I prefer the Airmax for target work because the fine reticle. The glass is noticeably better as well. They are almost bulletproof as well.

For hunting and general purpose the Vantages are very serviceable units. The thicker reticle stands out better than the Airmax in dark busy backgrounds. The glass is certainly adequate for airgun ranges. In fact the glass is good enough that I just switched out two 3.5-14x40 Nikon Prostaff 5s on my primary bolt action hunting rifles to Vantage 2-7x32s. My new property is mostly wooded and I needed lower power for shorter range shots.

A real nice compromise in Hawke reticles is the Vantage IR series. They're etched glass. They're a little finer than the regular Vantages and thicker than the Airmax. Good for target work and stand out in the dark busy woods. And if they don't stand out enough just turn the light on. It's the best of both worlds. My wife has a 2-7x32 Vantage AO IR on her Hw30 and it's great.
