Have you modified your moderator?

I had to machine out the first baffle in my DonnyFL mod with the flat end cap. The baffle being so close to the muzzle left a small dead space that was causing serious accuracy issues. After I removed that baffle, it's been fine.

My 1st pcp came with a Huggett installed. Not satisfied with it's performance I opened it and found it didn't have baffles, only a wire screen holding back felt. I took the baffles from a Benji NP, cut it down and wrapped it with the felt before installing it. It was better, but still not to my liking. I read somewhere someone used soda bottle caps for baffles and I have been meaning to give them a try.

A very effective design seems to be a large chamber in the rear, a somewhat small one in the middle, and a large one up front.

I have a fx moderator I modded with some 3d printed cone baffles (5 IRRC) more volume towards the muzzle, and the rest evenly spaced. The last compartment housing wire mesh and felt. Works the best of any I have. If only by a small margin. It has very thin walls, and LOTS of volume.

One thing to consider, is the Weihrauch moderator is pretty well regarded in the UK as the gold standard moderator. I have one, and can agree with that.

You know what's in it?

Two washers, hair curlers and felt lol

That makes 3 chambers and two baffles. No ports, no vent holes, nothing. And they work excellent. And they are also very lightweight.

Sometimes simpler is better. Or at least plenty good enough.

I just ordered an Emperor, with both the short adapter for my Avenger and the Ronin extension. I am disappointed to see that you felt the need to modify your Emperor, especially considering the high price of the item.

Would you tell me what you mean by white mesh and where I could find it, to experiment myself? If it really is superior, I would consider using it, including on my Koi, which I found underwhelming on my Marauder pistol.

I used neoprene wrap, like 1/16” thick, wrapped around the core and wire mesh on the DonnyFL shogun to tame down the rapport of my 30 cal Hatsan Hercules Bully. The neoprene came out of an exercise waist wrap, the one meant to “sweat the inches away”. I over stretched it with my big fat gut so it now goes towards moderator wrap materials, lol.

Does anyone have pics of what this looks like? I’m interested.

I'm wondering about the wisdom of modifying a moderator costing 150 or 200 dollars.... 🤔

🔶 Because:

I can readily believe that my China guns are a little short on R&D and on quality materials. So, if their shrouds need some extra help with hair curlers, I'm ready to raid my wife's drawers....

However, a silencer from DonnyFL or Huggett or any of those outfits — it seems like that's all they do — and charge a price for it, considering it being a glorified ballistic oil filter.... 😄

So, IF more washers, less washers, a thinner or thicker felt, etc. would make such a big difference — wouldn't they have figured that out when they designed their cans...? 🤔

🔶 Now, I understand from reading the R&D posts of Silent Thunder Ordnance that a silencer benefits from being adjusted to the amount of air being expelled by a shot. So, a higher power setting would have a somewhat different design than a lower power setting.

And at this point our silencer manufacturers could possibly gain an edge: Instead of offering generic silencers for a generic power setting (whatever that is) they could offer silencers for different power settings, say for .22cal — one for sub 15FPE, one for 15-35FPE, and one for 35-45FPE, or something like that....

🔶 If you have a gun with a particularly high or low power setting, I would probably contact the manufacturer/ R&D and see what they'd recommend — warranty nonwithstanding of course.

I'd think DonnyFL would respond, he has to me in the past.

Just my 2ct. I have yet a lot to learn.... 😊
