Felt pellets are meant to never be shot as singles, without a lead pellet in the same load (as advised by VFG), or with multiple felt pellets at once (the number depending on gun power).
There are prominent springer guys who are always ready to label felt pellets as "worse than useless", but the felts have never failed to pick up substantial filth out of my springer bores. I especially like them in my antique fixed barrel guns that are quite difficult to clean otherwise, with no direct access to the chamber.
