Diana Have you folks used .177 cal felt cleaning pellets?

I clean the barrel of my guns once when purchased. And only again if the accuracy is off. But that is seldom. Lead does not build up in a spring-piston or co2 gun. If it's a PCP I have no idea. I would not use a felt pellet in any of my spring-piston they are to light. Almost like dry firing it.

I don't know the pros and cons ...only know that they are "loud" and I used only once in my 2007 RWS Diana 48 .177. Thoughts, thanks.....
Just yesterday in a pcp. I oil the first two with clp, let em rip, a couple dry, another oiled and a final dry. They go super sonic and can do real damage. Denting metal ammo cans and my garage fridge, 😅

Edit. Point about the springer not being loaded and like a dry fire is a significant concern. Maybe just buy a rod and patch it when the accuracy degrades? No bronze brushes either imho. Fouling isn't significant enough in airguns to warrant it with too many negatives in this use.

In a PCP or co2 they will be okay I believe. But could possibly reek some havoc on the internals of a spring-piston

Yes.
I put in two felt pellets soaked in dishwasher liquid, followed by a lead pellet.
Then I do it again with dry pellets and a lead pusher.
Been doing it for 41 years with my springers and my one PCP (but not for 41 years..).
Note when I do it with the PCP (PRod) I turn the pistol upside down to prevent any liquid from entering the TP..

Thank you Frank!!!!

I remembered reading about them back in the nineties. Seemed like Beeman recommended using two at a time in springers. I don't do springers, so I didn't pay all that much attention to it. I know they're good in pumpers and co2 guns.

Here's an article on their use. - https://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2009/06/beeman-quick-cleaning-pellets/

"Spring-piston guns: Beeman recommends using two pellets in low-powered spring guns and at least three in moderate- to high-powered air rifles. These are loaded at once to help increase air resistance and stop the piston from slamming into the end of the compression chamber."

Cheers,

J~

I use my compressor and an air nozzle to blow felt pellets through my spring guns. Don't fire them in a spring gun.
No worries if you fire them through a PCP.
Now that is a unique idea...an air compressor! What is the compressor number needed to push the felt pellets through the barrel? Thanks!

I would never shoot one through a gun, basically a dry fire. It would probably work OK to load one behind a heavy-ish pellet though, I assume that would expand it a bit on its way through.

I occasionally use them like cleaning wads, especially for old tap-loaders. You can push one down from the muzzle into the tap and easily remove it.

Compressor number? Just my shop compressor used for airbrush, tire fills or whatever general duties.
I no longer use air tools so I downgraded to a little 1g dry compressor. It's quiet enough to run in my kitchen while the wife sleeps and I'm painting lures.

This is the out of the box thinking I pride myself on and missed my chance.

This is a sound method with a rubber tipped air blower imho. Well done Navin

I used them in springers for years with no appreciable effect on the piston, but I would stuff 5-6 in at a time. Not sure if that was my own idea or advise I read back in the day. I’ve moved on and adapted different cleaning methods, but I’ll still stuff a few in an old Winchester 600x and let them rip to dispatch centipedes or spiders I cannot identify that have made it into the house. Works great for that.
