Have you ever had...

Have you had, or do you have, a gun that you weren't really all that crazy about. It's almost..."just" taking up space in your safe (or wall). BUT you are/were really accurate with ?

I've got a Cricket II, in .22, with the WSA stock. The stock (fit to me) is, ok, not in love with the single stage trigger, it's a little on the heavier side (off handed shooter), BUT...I'm more accurate with it, than a couple of the guns that I do...like to shoot ! The weight helps a little with holding it, steady on target, other than that, what the hell.

I have no plans on selling it, just wondering if I'm alone with this quandary, or are there others out there with a similar situation?

Off hand shooter here too. Generally... the better I shoot a rifle, the more I like it! But there was one exception. Shot pretty darn well, but it was high maintenance & zero would wander from time to time. Never did pinpoint the cause, though testing ruled out pellet lot variation & scope/mount issues. I've little patience for that in a gun- get soured on it quickly if I can't find a simple, lasting fix.

I've got one... More or less got a "good" deal on it, and couldn't stop myself from turning it around. Too much time and effort into making it much much better to ever part with it. I also made it accurate, as well as better in many respects. But still... it is what it is. Plastic trigger group housing, still kind of spongy. Heavy hammer and stiff spring required to operate the unregulated valve system... make for a bit of a jarring shot cycle. Hammer is a bit noisy. Sub-par components and machining. I more or less keep it as a backup, and shoot it for fun every once in a while. It's cool to have an unregulated gun that is high-power, and consistent as well as accurate. Also made it considerably lighter, so it is pleasurable to handle and shoot off-hand now.

Bought a Galatian Tact from a fellow member on impulse. Put a leftover UTG Bug Blaster and bipod on and forgot about it. Came 3/4 full of air and the gentleman included a tin of JSB 25’s. It sat for months before I even function checked it. No leaks. Shot 9 pellets @ 25 to roughly sight in. Last 3 were almost dead on. Revisited 6 months later, air same as where I left it. Put another 10 through it recently and same story. The gun is totally impractical. Rather heavy to comfortably offhand and likely too powerful in my suburban environment.

However every time I look at it and think “why keep it”, I remember the above. Holds air indefinitely, powerful, accurate enough, Semi-auto just because, and got such a great deal. It would be as much hassle to sell it and the second I did I know I would regret it somehow. That’s so far the one that comes to mind

I have a Sumatra 25 cal. thats been tuned by Will Pait. Its never leaked and is VERY powerful, and is not pellet picky. It will shoot one hole groups on low power at my 20 yard range BUT Im a bench rest shooter and both my wrist are fused and I just cant get comfortable behind that gun.I dont shoot it much but not sure I would sell it. So yes I do have one.

For me it is a wildcat MKII compact in 25. Has a Discovery scope on it and shoots the 25's right at 880. I only get 3 mags on a fill, Holds air forever, no POI change, and shoots out to 100 yards no problem. It was my truck rifle when I went hunting, but it fell to the wayside. I was going to take it out today and shoot it again because I might take it Ground Squirrel shooting at a winery tomorrow....Rifle was all beat up when I got it so I pulled out a few colors of Krylon and went to work on it.

I only have 3 rifles, but i would not part with any of them at the moment, but if i in the future got some super gun that was very versatile so i could shoot several things with the same thing with ease, then i might consider parting with a rifle or two.

In that case i would probably give the gun to a worthy person as i dont like selling things even to people i know, besides my dented karma account can always need a leg up.

My more used .30 Cal up to now: Vulcan 2

My more used .22: Uragan

My less used .25 Cal: Vulcan 2 (super accurate and is absolutely reliable).

My Vulcan 2 in .25 Cal -45 foot pounds - has many other rifles to compete with (same accuracy but: twice the shots per fill - big air bottles-, or more power -66 foot pounds the Renegade HP non regulated-).

The Vulcan 3 .30 Cal, (once I wilI have installed the Huma regulator), give expectations of becoming an absolute favorite. Already gives above 100 foot pounds, it is very accurate and gives MANY shots per fill. The total length is perfect and also the weight if you do not use a heavy scope.

I only have 3 but if I had to get rid of one it would definitely be my 25 caliber Avenger. It is at least as accurate as the other two and not very heavy but it is LONG. The plastic stock is also pretty ugly but that is not the big deal, it is the length. But why get rid of it? I got it early so I only paid $300 for it and it shoots great and hold air. It is tuned higher than my other 25 so it is my most powerful air rifle. I will probably shoot it today, just to check the accuracy, sound, and velocity.

Lol no. Hell I sold guns I loved. Others I didn't get sold even faster. So no taking up space.

However I've had multiple guns that shot very well that I just didn't shoot much. Cricket II was one of them just not a comfortable gun to me and not a fan of the cocking. Cricket mini carbine I wanted to love it but same thing wasn't happy with how it felt. Vulcan 3 outstanding shooter I mean super accurate, didn't fit me that terribly well, and heavy thing for my needs. Brocock Bantam I didn't find comfortable either. These were just ones that didn't fit me well. All performed as should. But yeah nothing takes up space in my safe. Those spots are earned not given just cause they were bought. In fact airgun wise only have Prophet Compact and HW30S anymore.

I mean.... isn't that essentially why everyone and their grandmother owns a Red Ryder BB gun? Its essentially a piece of junk, but nostalgic for most, and why go through the trouble of selling something you aren't going to get anything for.... but then when was the last time you did anything with it?

I will give you that this is a really Brass Tacks explanation. Though some of the above mentioned are far from cheap or junk. Still laughed!
