Have JSB Kings (.25 caliber) changed?

I bought some JSB Kings recently and when testing pellets in a new rifle I noticed they seemed somehow different than the JSB Kings I had bought earlier. I still had a few of the old ones in a small tin so I compared them. The weight was essentially the same but the latest ones I bought were on average .004 shorter (which isn't much) and the skirts appeared to be thicker. My Wildcat shoots the older ones noticeably better than the new ones as well in early tests. It could just be the difference in production runs. The new tins have "M 72/09" on the bottom of the tin lid where the old ones simply have "CZ".

I just wondered if any of you had noticed anything as well.

Yep, I have 2 different types of Kings. Two types of the .22 18.13 gr too.

On some, the good ones, the skirts are thin and there is like a dimple in the center of the skirt cavity.

The 'bad' ones have thick skirts, are slightly shorter, no dimple, and the length seems to come from the skirt, which is also shorter. All these combine to put the FOC off a little, and none of the thicker skirt ones ever shoot as well in any of my guns.

That's exactly my experience too. Surely JSB is aware of this. I wish I could find a stock of the old ones.

An someone post a picture of new and old? I think I have the new one.

Old on the right. New on the left.

And the dangest thing happened when testing at 50 yards. I was only going to shoot 5 at 50 yards to start since they didn’t look all that great at 35 yards. But those 5 looked really good at 50. So I decided to shoot 5 more at the same spot. I put 5 in the magazine and I got 2 very distinct groups of 5. The second group was about an inch to the left of the first group and both groups were good.

What could cause that?

Thanks! They do look different! Think they made the skirt a little thicker to prevent damage?

Could be. My other .25 caliber pellets have a similar thick skirt except for the Hades.

I was playing with the power wheel on my Wildcat and using the new Kings since they weren’t a favorite pellet for this rifle. When I got to power level 4 - 823 FPS average - magic happened. The Kings started shooting .19 to .25 inch groups at 35 yards! The new Kings may be speed sensitive. Give that a try instead of trying to push them too fast.

I definitely have the new ones and so far no issues with accuracy. Tried 700FPS and 920FPS but shot tight groups. Guess ignorance is bliss and no need to cancel 8 tins of them in back order(air arm version).

I was wondering about the Air Arms version. I'm told that while JSB relabels their pellets for other brands Air Arms has and controls their own dies - that's the rumor anyway. I wondered if the Air Arms pellets had changed also.

The air arm version is from JSB with same tin and everything. They do look like the new version posted, FX pellets are basically the same as far as I can tell. The Air arm version is 3 dollars cheaper per tin (15.99 vs 18.99) at Pyramyd and airgun depot, plus they still have buy 3 get 1 free plus 10% off code, very economical and it's literally the same thing. But because they are such a good deal they are back ordered for weeks now. Perhaps I should order more. LOL
