hatsan hercules bully .45 breach seal

Hi all,

I recently got into big bore air guns and decided to purchase a hatsan hercules bully in .45 cal. The gun worked ok, and once i found pellets the gun liked i was able to get about a 2" group at 50 yards. (not great at all, but still working on it). Anyway after only around 30 rounds i got a blast of air in the face upon discharge. After looking into it i notice there is what looks like an o-ring groove directly in the back of the barrel where the rod pushes the pellet into the bore that appears to be gone. I assume this is a breach seal and it must have came loose and shot out the barrel. I am not sure how to get a replacement, I sent hatsan a warranty message on their websight. I cant seem to find any other way to get in contact with them, or to just purchase a replacement seal. If anyone has info on how/where to get a breach seal for this gun any info would be highly appreciated.

Hatsan USA has the exploded diagrams available but I didn't see any descriptions of the part numbers at all, much less by caliber.... I'd call them tomorrow if no one else chimes in. Make sure to get the oring size info in case this happens again

Did you fire it without a pellet/bullet? Breach seals fail but don't usually disappear. But then again, I don't recall how the probe fitted on the ones I had a bit ago so.....

I did test fire after getting air blasted without pellets to figure out what was going on before i realized it was a breach seal. I could have lost it then. The gun did come with a bag of o rings but non of them looked to be the right size. athomas56 if you have this gun would you be able to send me a pick of what the breach seal looks like? is it a standard round o ring or is it more of a square u cup seal.. that would be helpfull. as far as i know hatsan doesnt have a number to call that they answer. i found a number related to warranty claims but you can only leave a messege.

well if all else fails measure the O-ring area and go the O-ring Store, it will be metric in size but a inch one could cross over

all air gunners should have a digital caliper and a 6 inch stainless ruler, I know I could not live without mine

Carrera precision cp5906

General NO.311-me

the reason for the ruler and O-rings is a caliper puts the squeeze on the ring for the width, where as the ruler is used to lay the ring on top of so you can do a good guesstimate

but you know this already

Yea my bailout position is to measure and buy one from mcmaster or something. I am a machinist and own a machine shop so yes measuring is not going to be difficult for me. The only thing i am struggling with is that i do not remember what it looked like before i lost it, are the typically regular round cross-section o-rings? If so that's easy, I wasn't sure if it was more like a u-cup seal if you know what im talking about. So i guess my question is are they just regular round cross section o-rings?

The factory breach seals have too small of an OD and blow out with heavy slugs. PM me your address and I will send you a couple of each seal. I have a few hundred rounds through my .45 and haven’t blew a breach since. I ordered hundreds of several + and - sizes of each seal in the .45 Bully until I found the ones that work.

.45 Hatsan Bully McMaster Carr part numbers: all are Buna 70

Valve seal 9262K251 2.5x18

Barrel seal 9262K128 1.5x12

Breach seal 9262K604 1.78x11.11

I keep blowing breech seals in my .45. Got new seals from McMaster Car in Douglasville Georgia and they continue to blow on just about every shot. Shooting the Seneca 200 grain slug. Have not made any adjustment to the rifle other than reducing the tension on the trigger pull. Any thoughts other than change out oring to bigger size?

Three things that can be done about this... First is "breaking" the sharp machined corner edges of the o-ring groove and polishing the pellet probe with some 800 grit sandpaper. This prevents the o-ring from cutting on those sharp steel corners when the bolt and pellet/slug cycles in and out. Second, using a different o-ring material in a better, more durable compound will not allow the o-ring to squish onto those sharp corners as easily. The cast urethane o-ring made of Disogrin is not as elastic the black buna 70 and 90 class of ring. I use them successfully in areas like the breech where the standard black o-rings fail often. And third would be to apply a silicone lube to the o-ring groove and pellet probe so it constantly lubes and expands the o-ring as it slides a pellet into the breech instead of grabbing and rolling it.
