Hatsan Carnivore?

I have the BT65 Carnivore in .30 cal with the side lever. The bolt style is the older model and some have reported it extremely hard to cock. The .30 will give you more energy and ability to take larger game. Pellets will be a little more expensive but shouldn’t matter unless you plan on shooting a bunch. I have considered selling mine, PM me for details if you are interested.

skip the Hatsan and buy an Hw95 or HW30 is my advice. As for .30 over .25...for light pesting you will pay more for the .30 pellets and they are hard to find sometimes. They have a bit more putdown, I suppose. But a 16FPE can put down most small game. 26-28FPE is a lot more than needed. Also there is quality problems I have personally experienced with that brand.

Just looking at the .30 Hatsan Carnivore. Was wondering what the opinions are on a bolt vs lever?
No real plans for it other than plinking and some light pest control.

Is there anything to be gained stepping up to a .30 vs. .25?

My opinion is that a sidelever is preferable - it is easier to use because of mechanical advantage with no need to raise it and lower it during loading; also, it generally does not protrude as far as a bolt from the side of the gun so the sidelever is less likely to "snag" on clothing or other objects. For your stated uses there is no advantage in stepping up from 25 to 30, and trajectory will be improved with the 25. with a larger, more economical pellet selection. The Carnivore works, but it is a very large and heavy gun - I'd be looking for a lighter weight option. Let us know what you decide! 😀

You do realize he is talking about the BT65 Carnivore and not the 135 break barrel? You are comparing a 16 FPE break barrel rifle to a PCP that will put out 80 FPE in stock form. While I agree the Hatsan brand isn’t anywhere near a top tier product, the BT65 hasn’t had many issues that I am aware of.

Ah sorry missed that. Same advice. Hatsan left a sour spot in my heart...hard pass. They can always send a gun to change my mind

Most of my shooting is done on my own property so weight isn’t a big issue, but would you happen to know some lighter weight rifles to look at?
