Just looking at the .30 Hatsan Carnivore. Was wondering what the opinions are on a bolt vs lever?
No real plans for it other than plinking and some light pest control.
Is there anything to be gained stepping up to a .30 vs. .25?
My opinion is that a sidelever is preferable - it is easier to use because of mechanical advantage with no need to raise it and lower it during loading; also, it generally does not protrude as far as a bolt from the side of the gun so the sidelever is less likely to "snag" on clothing or other objects. For your stated uses there is no advantage in stepping up from 25 to 30, and trajectory will be improved with the 25. with a larger, more economical pellet selection. The Carnivore works, but it is a very large and heavy gun - I'd be looking for a lighter weight option. Let us know what you decide!
