Hatsan Airmax vs Kral Puncher Knight

I’m looking to get into pcp Airguns coming from a firearms background including years of shooting benchrest long distance match. Haven’t had the time or money to enjoy my powder burners. I’m thinking that transitioning would allow me to setup a a small basement range and weather permitting a range in the backyard so I can get in some trigger time between trips to a proper shooting range. That said, I’m on a budget and the Airmax and Knight both seem to fit what I’m looking for but there aren’t many reviews on the Knight and power numbers don’t seem to be very consistent. I like the idea that the Knight has power adjustment so I can tone it down since the basement range will only be about 10yrds but I still want to get performance at 100yrds when I’m at the local shooting range and I’m not sure the Knight is going to really satisfy that itch. I’m looking to spend around $1500 all in and already determined it’s worth getting a small compressor and something with larger shot count so that’s what has narrowed me down to these options however I’m open to other suggestions with high shot count in the sub $800 range (leaving some money in the budget for optics as well as the compressor). Oh and I’m looking at .25 under the thought it’s going to carry its energy farther.

Thanks in advance for any input,

Kyle

Don't get too high expectations coming from a benchrest powderburner world meaning airgun distances past 75 yards. Both of those guns sound rather new. I would wait until I see positive reviews before spending that kind of blind cash purchase unless it was a brand new model from proven winners such as RAW or Daystate or Taipan or Edgun for example not many grievances if any. A 25 caliber for basement shooting and 100 yard shooting is a tough one. The 25 caliber to shoot at 100 yards sounds reasonable. A Taipan Veteran if you like bullpups or an Edgun Morana if you want a traditional rifle would be my pics in your price range in 25 caliber. There are other options in that price range but you probably want the winners that have no problems or drama correct? YO!

Thanks for the suggestions, just trying to keep my skills sharp and keep it challenging. I prefer repeaters but would be alright with a single shot, I started off looking at airforce but they don’t seem to get many shots between fills. I keep eyeing the FX dreamline but it’s just a little more than I want to spend especially the ones with bottles.

The knight can swap calibers. Shoot 10 yards indoors with 177 turned down on power dial. Swap to heavy . 22 or . 25 for outdoor shooting at high power. Neither gun has open sights, so a scope will need to be able to adjust objective down to your short range and will need to be a large factor scope. 3-18 power would be a 6 factor (max/min power level). Adjustable scope rings may be needed and those ain't cheap. I am quite happy with the discovery line of scopes.

FWIW, there are quite a few more options in .22 than .25, and the pellets or slugs cost a lot less money and air (money again) to shoot. Both Hatsan and Kral will be loud indoors. Lower power setting is less noise for sure.

The Hatsan equivalent of the knight is the Hatsan Hydra. Brand new, not sure of price. Easy barrel and caliber swap.

Good luck and tell us about your success!
