Many years ago 40+ at least, I read an article in a hunting magazine about the future of hunting type sports, the article suggested buying some land to ensure your children and grandchildren have a place to hunt shoot and enjoy the outdoors, even a small piece if that was all that could be afforded, that article made a big impression on me, 20 years ago my wife and I moved to Tennessee and bought a 117AC farm for investment hunting shooting camping, and the exclusive rights to be there, I said on the record back than "peace and quiet is going to be a hard thing to find in the future". To say this property has been a blessing and a paradise would be an understatement. One couldn't find better deer hunting squirrels are everywhere, and I've shot everything from a .177 air rifle to a .50cal. Barrett up to 400yards there, anytime I want! The best benefit of your own private property is that you are "insulated" from the world and the huddled masses

!, one of the County Wildlife Officers owns property that joins mine! When I hear about what is going on in some States I consider how fortunate I am! Considering how much has changed in 40 years and where we're heading this article was prophetic! I understand not everyone can afford to buy hunting property or relocating to a different State, but I'm glad that I did! I shoot air guns almost exclusively there now, air guns are more interesting, intimate, (quiet) and more challenging, and just more fun!!! I shot my new Impact X at 100yards the other day, second group was 1.170" out of the box!
 
Sure is a nice looking piece of land, RM. I’ve always wanted to own a couple hundred acres, and back in the day I envisioned myself just tooling around in a quad or a side by side UTV, trying to decide if I want to either fill my buck tag or get wild boar that day. I’m glad you’re enjoying it, and living the dream, buddy. 

As a side note, have you had to run any trespassers out at all?

Sounds like a great way to make additional income, and possibly have meat in your fridge as donated by the hunters. My neighbor owns 200+ acres less than two miles from me, and it’s infested with wild boar. I’ve hinted numerous times to ask if he’d let me hunt coyote there, and his generic answer has always been, “that’s something to think about” but it never happens. I get it. He’s already got an elite group that hunts there, and they more than likely pay fees, and made arrangements with him to keep it as private as possible. The only other person he lets on their is my other neighbor, whose the CEO for Trijicon scopes. His business landed accounts with the federal government and military, to make all their night vision and heat sensing vision eyewear. He takes these military higher ups on “a guided hunt” at 2am where they drive out there with no headlights on whatsoever, only the goggles to see by, and they shoot a couple of pig with the thermal scopes.

i asked him what they did with the boars that they shot, if they harvested the meat. He looked at me weird, like I was asking him to harvest the meat off of a skunk or something. That’s really too bad, leaving those carcasses out there to rot.

Very interesting reading your post now after the conversation I was having with my 12 y/o son last night. After not hitting the Power Ball drawing the other night, he asked: What would you have done if we had won it? To which I replied: I would buy some acres in TN and build a home, nothing too big. Would get an RV and travel the CONUS. Attend EBR in AZ....(among other things of course)
