Hand pump advice needed

I have owned PCP's about 30 years. I still have my first one. A Daystate LR90. I do own a few more. I don't shoot PCP often but when I do the issue is I am very lean and fit at 62 years old. I maintain my weight at 165 lb. The last 10-20 pumps when filling lift my feet off the ground filling to 2800-3000. I barely weigh enough to top off. I have an older Benjamin pump. Is there a hand pump that requires less weight to pump? I am sure that would come at the expense of more strokes to fill. Thank you.

I bought a cheaper pump several months ago to replace my old Hill MKIII. I don't think it requires less weight, but it may be more efficient than what you're using:

For what it is worth, I am 5'9" and 145 lbs. I generally only fill my Marauder up to 2800 PSI, but I fill my Dreamline to a higher pressure. My feet are able to stay on the ground, though there is significant effort to pump beyond 3000PSI. Hope that helps.

Yes, Thank you. I doubt you would be able to pump my older Benjamin and keep your feet on the floor. I can't and I'm heavier. The physical effort is not an issue. I run some, lift, and do pushups and sometimes dips 5 times a week.

Apparently a 4500 pump is easier to fill to 3000 than my Benjamin is. Or people wouldn't be able to even get to 4500. Unless you weighed much more than 225lb.

I don't like to "buy and see". Prefer to know what I'm buying. Not a "send it back guy". Air rifles have cocking effort in their specifications. Why isn't that described in Hand pump specs? Is there such a comparison to see? Someones reviews?

I am not even remotely interested in electric pumps, thank you.

My kids bought me a Benjamin hand pump for Christmas before I even had a PCP. So I had to buy a Prod. About 6 months later I decided I wanted a 25 caliber Avenger and bought it. But the 3,000 psi Benjamin pump was not well matched to a 300 bar fill. So I bought an inexpensive chinese hand pump. It is a little easier to use, I think. I find it a lot more enjoyable to use my Yong Heng and SCBA tanks now, however. I pumped my Avenger up to 4000 psi a few times but it was not fun. Plenty of strokes (maybe 200 for a refill) and the higher pressure ones required me to put my weight on the pump. I am 66 years old, 6'2" tall and weight about 185 lbs. It is not a strength issue, it just gets tiring to raise my body again for each stroke. It is very possible for me to do but I do not enjoy it. It's just a guess but I would think a lighter person might have more of an issue with balance but should be able to do it. I don't put my full weight on the pump but if I get tired I may still loose my balance a little. I think that would be worse if I weighed 20 lbs less.

I doubt a different hand pump will make this a lot better. But I don't really know. I do know that my Yong Heng made it easy. I've only had it about a year but I've had no issues. I think it's worth using good oil. I use Nuvair 825. The pump is noisy but will fill the Avenger from empty in about a minute. These days I use the Yong Heng to fill a SCBA tank and then fill the guns from that. The tank and fill set cost as much as the Yong Heng, however. It is the darkside.....

When I hand pumped the Avenger I usually just filled it to 3500 psi or less. My regulator has never been higher than 2400 so I could shoot a few mags with even a 3000 fill. It was a viable alternative. If I wasn't blessed with the money for the pump, I would have kept doing it.

I have the cheap China pump that was on sale for $25 free ship from Amazon that's currently under $50 free ship with discount applied and it pumps and fills my PcPs way easier than my Benjamin hand pump.

It is not worth paying such a high price $200 price range or even $100 or $50 for the Benjamin pump in my opinion.

If buying the Hill MK5 hand pump with dry Air system AoA probably the cheapest $219 and their description states limited Life time warranty.

https://www.airgunsofarizona.com/pcp-accessories/hill-mk5-air-pump-with-dry-air-system/

If you buy from PA $249 they state 5 year limited warranty.

Some thing else rather odd. Weihrauch guns purchased from PA only have a one year warranty and compared to Life time warranty if purchased from AoA.

Good to know what the warranty differences are for added piece of mind.

Worth thinking about in another light.

You can buy atleast 4 of the $50 free ship China pumps for the price of the Hill at current prices. Or atleast 8 China pumps if it goes on sale again for $25 free ship and they already come with tools and rebuild kit. Alot loss effort to pump compared to the Benjamin pump.

Thank you kindly, but I have no idea which pump from Amazon that might be. If you could be more specific, please, I will likely give one a try.

Used an old Benjamin hand pump for a couple years, then bought a Hill pump.

The difference between the two physically is worth paying twice their price.

I have a bad back, shoulder, knees and the list goes on from there😉, I'd be dripping sweat after filling one gun to 3K when using the Benjamin, but the Hill pump I can top off several guns to 250 bar, no sweat, pain or real increase to normal breathing.

I have a couple scba tanks, but always use the Hill pump to stretch out and conserve psi in them.

It's why I don't have a compressor and laugh at people who just get into pcp guns, have 1 gun, and feel that they have to have a air compressor.

People saying that you can buy 3 or 4 of those cheap Amazon pumps, for the price of 1 Hill pump, I'm sorry but you get what you pay for in the end.

I'm old and lazy. I'm new to these PCP guns and got a Factor RC last week. Man, pellet guns have come a long way since 1973 when I got a Crosman 760. I'm beyond impressed. I've been shooting firearms for years and years but decided to give these guns a try. I'm glad I did but I see it being as deep of a rabbit hole as the rest. I'm hooked.

And to stay true to the topic... I bought a compressor.

I don't know about other Hill models, but the MK3 I have has be flawless so far. I routinely pump up to 4500 psi while pressurizing the input air to 10 PSI at 4000+ PSI. The boost pressure can be much higher at lower pressures. I have used 60 PSI when filling from empty. This is way over its maximum rating and haven't even changed any o-rings yet. I only pump 60-70 times and then let it cool for 10+ mins. If I increase the number of pumps, or shorten the cool down time, the o-rings most likely need to be replaced more often.

I'm curious to how those $50 pumps from China hold up to 4500 psi use before they need to be services or get damaged beyond repair. Do they really come with liquid coolant inside as I have read?

I must be a complete weirdo. Since I’ve gotten into pcp these are the kind of things I’ve read. I am 185 lbs by far not a huge guy and pumping to 3000 is literally nothing. I regularly fill to 250 bar and find it nowhere near what is being described here. Maybe 20 lbs makes all the difference 🤷‍♂️. I guess I would recommend a scba bottle or compressor.
