I am new to airguns but not new to target shooting. I see a lot of airguns advertised as having hammer forged barrels. Powder burning rifles almost all have factory hammer forged barrels which is less desirable than having a barrel machined and stress relieved. The average hunting rifle with hammer forged barrel shoots a decent group for about 3-10 rounds then as the barrel heats up the group grows in size. Fine barrels for powder burners are not hammer forged but machined and stress relieved. It makes me wonder why the air rifles are using hammer forged barrels do they not heat as much as powder burners and not give way to stresses created during the hammer forging process? I am still trying to learn before I buy and this is one of those things that does not make sense to me. I would think if you were paying a lot of money for an accurate rifle it would have a machined and stress relieved barrel??
