Had a fun couple hours letting my son grease pigeons this afternoon.

Started the day scrubbing the barrel and sighting her in. Poi was like always with an edgun. Dead on and predictably the same. My only issue with slugs is after about fifty or sixty shots the barrel is allready fouled up and groups open up.

Had a lot of different responsibilities all day, but at 3 things slowed down to where me and my son could sneak away to a neighboring farm about 5 miles away for some pest control.

We got about 10 or 12 birds in about an hour. Nothing crazy, but boy did we have a blast! If you have never whacked a sparrow at 40 yards with a slug, you need to do it. That sound.... wow! And the plume of feathers going 5 feet in every direction! Lol

My son made some spectacular shots, greasing pigeons at 72 yards. Hes 9 years old, but hes shooting better than in was at 32.

His expression of joy at his successful hits was truly incredible to watch.

I live right in the middle of some of the best pheasant and deer hunting in the whole USA.

I dunno, call me crazy, but I'd rather grease a dozen starlings than shoot a monster buck!

Not much eating in a starling

, but I share your sentiment.

High five to the wee man, good stuff.

PS, please tell more about your EdGun and it's slug shooting.

Hi Harry. It has a huma reg with a power plenum.

Reg is set at 140 bar. It shoots 26 grain nsa slugs at around 950.

I dunno I liked the extra 3 shots gained from.shooting them at 940, and accuracy is still excellent.

It will generally hold 1/2" groups at 50 yards, although occasionally they will unexpectedly open to 3/4" but I have shot a decent amount of groups that were MOA at 100 yards.

The last couple times I tried it outshot the pellets even at 50. At 100 and 150 the pellets have no chance.

My hit to miss ratio has gone through the roof with slugs. Their ballistic coefficient is crazy! I literally hardly pay attention to wind anymore.

Range the distance. Crank the turret. Sqeeze, and WHACK!

lazy man shooting! Lol Absolutely love em!

They expand like crazy! Open up to a little over half inch upon impact! Very very messy and very lethal.

Hope this helps...

New member here and good to see somebody making good memories with the son.

I agree that a day chasing the small stuff can be as much fun as chasing big game.

I did quite a bit of ground squirrel hunting this past Summer with my .22 rim fire and really enjoyed it.
So much so that I ordered my first serious air rifle yesterday and look forward to learning how to use it.

Hope you and your son get many more rewarding trips afield.

Awesome!!! Shooting with my two sons brings me more happiness than anything else. Your son is at that age where it will only keep getting better and better from here on out. My sons both became great shots so fast that I hardly have to help them with anything anymore...Breath control, trigger press, estimating and holding for wind, etc...They are dialed in. I’d imagine that won’t be long for your son either. Great times!!!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving my friend!

High velocities and no lube can lead up a barrel fast. I just did a hundred pull throughs with a patch and some rubbing compound, did a little extra werq on the choke, then started using lubed pellets and went from 100 to over 600 shots between cleanings. Smoothing things out really helped.

One on one time is important in relationships and can really build self esteem in young ones when you spend some quality time with them.

Great to see your son shooting so well. Both of my daughters went right from good to excellent shots in short order at near the same age.
