H&N HP Slug Coating

Any idea what type of special coating they use ? 

I was shooting my impact today and getting 3/4 " groups at 50 yards. I decided to try some 21gr hp slugs and they preformed well., I shot a mag. I reloaded the 25 4 gr redesigned pellets and they were hole touching hole. It had to have been the coating on the slugs, coating feels thick its different

If I remember correctly, it's not a coating they put on the slugs, it's a lube that they use on the machinery to reduce friction. The coating left on the slugs is just residual from the process of making the slugs. Hope this helps. Stoti

I just received some Thur and they have no residue on them. Maybe they're cleaning them better? Very impressed with the performance. Very good accuracy in my Flashpup, but what I like most of all is at distance the drop is so much less than the 25 gr pellets I was shooting. Zeroed at 35 yds they drop 2 inches at 85 yds and still group well. This for a .217 23 gr @ 950 +or- fps.

The slugs in the sample pack in clear tubes seem to be coated. The ones in the tin are different and are not. I read on one site they have a special coating/lubricant...this is what it says

Slug HP is coated with a special lubricant to reduce barrel friction

I just sent an email to the mfg, will advise any findings.

The type of coating is the same for both. At the beginning, however, we had difficulties distributing the coating evenly across all production batches.
