H&N And FX Working Together On Slug Barrels

There's news about how H&N is working with FX on slug barrel development in today's story in Hard Air Magazine.

You can read the interview I made with H&N CEO Florian Schwartz at RMAC a few months ago (below). H&N is obviously pushing ahead fast with slug development and manufacturing. That will be good news for many long range shooters.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this effort. The idea of having H&N mass producing slugs is very alluring because it has the potential to bring the cost down. However their nearest predecessors, the Rabbit Magnum (I and II), have an abysmal track record. We know H&N has the pedigree to produce high quality projectiles when they want to so hopefully the FX collaboration will provide the necessary motivation to do it right.

Mmm so now it seems there may well be a separate H&N slug liner? Can't say I'd be thrilled as it would add yet another variable to getting good results. Given they have the potential to knock the smaller guys out of the game, if the slug liner A ends up sub par for their slugs or more likely it becomes a 'get both and see' scenario people could end up with a lot of excess liners.

Oh well at least they shoot pellets really well 🤷‍♂️

The .22 cal. is pretty far along in development, when it will be in full production is anybodies guess? All other calibers will be a ways off in the future.

I spoke with H&N at the end of last month, they're in full production this month for their new 22 cal slugs. UK and US will have strong distribution, but the waiting time becomes the shipping. I'd expect the UK to see more on the market, initially.

Yeah, I talked to the head of product development at the end of last month too. He didn't tell me when they would go into full production but they hadn't yet. He also told me they were just starting to develop the .25, so it's going to be a while. Something to look forward to, but in all honesty, I don't think they can be any better than the Nielsen slugs I've been shooting. They're super accurate and my Impact and RAW like them all at various velocities. They're the most accurate I've tested thus far. Nick's on to something!

Nation,

I've been working with Mr. Schwartz for a while now, testing upgrades of existing pellet offerings, and giving input and recommendations on upcoming projects. H&N has stepped up in their quality game, they recently moved to a new facility and retooled everything. The quality over previous years is unsurpassed. Field Target Trophy's have been my go to projectile, and I'm impressed with the consistency and quality of them recently. I think the slug market will have a very good addition in the H&N lineup.
