Maybe I got a set of magnets that were a little weaker than most included with my GX filter. Stopped by harbor freight and picked these bad boys up. 95 lb pull each. Had a coupon they were 8 bucks for the pair.

Magnetic sweepers from hf is the ideal way to go if you don't want to build yokes and hose clamp it on. I like your Ingenuity, God job!

I ended up just Supergluing them, then realized I cant open the case anymore, and also that aluminum shouldnt be heated above 150c (i was planning on ungluing with heat gun). I like your idea better. Thankfully the magnets pop out of the nylon bushing theyre in so Im able to take the thing on/off still.
