Recently i got a refurb gxcs4i from fleabay. I added a dual temp meter one zip tied to pump head and one zip tied to water tank. Both guages apear to work in harmony and within a few degrees of each other. I have not needed to run compressor for more than 10 min yet. So my question is at what temp should i think about letting it cool down. Its good that i can monitor the temps to make sure cooling system is working. But that does me no good if I just sit nd watch the temp get too high without having the knowledge of when to give it a break. Ive also added a filter hour meter and water lights

I'm not so sure you will ever get to the point of having to shut it down to let it cool off unless you are filling several large tanks! Mine never gets above around 96F to 98F, which is about the same as a low grade fever! It also has built in safety circuitry that will automatically shut it down if it does get above a certain temperature. Mine's never reached that temp, so I really have no idea what it is!

Only way it would ever overheat...
Water pump fails, (snap switch will protect you then) or you're running it in direct hot 100 plus degree sun for extended periods of time... and the snap switch will still protect the compressor. You would need multiple failures for a true overheating situation.

I suppose you could buy an alarm and have it monitor water temps and have it go off at 145 degrees, which is just before the switch should shut it down.
