Gx cs3i log

Just bought my first HP compressor got the gx cs3i from amazon.. arrived safe and functional; so far first fill was my gamo urban 22 and then filled my leshiy2 to 30bar.

I am going to run mine in 20min max cycles and allow a 3min cool down with power on/ fans running; this is beyond what the manual states.

I bought an air/water filter, long tube w 3 diff materials inside (charcoal, air beads, other), it's the gold tube one. Will try connecting that and see if it allows me to bring up to 30bar - read some mixed reports

I filled an empty 2 liter carbon fiber tank to 300 bar — 10 minutes run time, 8 minutes rest with fans blowing

I didn’t count but it took 6 or 8 cycles to fill — now its just one or two cycles to top off when used

I fill my guns direct when home with just 1 cycle then a decent cool down, don’t time it but top of head is cool to touch before shutting off — maybe 5 or 6 minutes

I have the GX CS3 - same pump but with an external 12v power supply. I recently installed a small secondary water / oil trap and have done about 7 fills that were less than 10 minutes each. On mine, there was visible water coming out each time when I opened the bleed valve on the compressor but so far none found in the 2nd filter. relative humidity was under 30. It is only about 5 inches long and it does take a bit longer with the extra filter in place to reach the point where the pressure in the gun starts going up, but not long enough to be a bother. If your 2nd filter / trap setup is fairly large it will take longer than a smaller one. If you aren't seeing evidence of moisture in the 2nd one and it takes too long to bring it up to pressure for you, perhaps a smaller 2nd filter would work well. I have read previously that the water trap in the CS3 series is better than the one in the CS2, but have never used a CS2 for comparison. It certainly is larger.

My owner's manual says to let the fans run for 1 to 2 minutes before shutting off the pump, but based on advice I have read I let the fans run about the same amount of time as the pump was running, or until I can feel cool air rather than hot or warm, coming out of the cylinder cooling fan opening. I plan to add a temperature gauge to the cylinder head to have a better idea of the actual temperature rather than guessing based on the exhaust air temp, though I don't know what the ideal max temp would be for this design.

This was where I decided to bump the cool time to 3mins rather than 2 mins per the manuf suggestion. Basically I was doubling the recommended cool cycle and cutting run cycle by 1/3

That makes sense. I am just learning to run mine, but from reading here and elsewhere I think the key factor is the temperature of the cylinder head rather than just how long you run it or how long you cool it. I can't remember the magic temperature or where I read it, but I do want to install a temperature gauge on the GX cylinder head.

With another day of several fills using my newly installed secondary water / oil trap is still pristine. No oil stains or moisture on the cotton wads. The humidity was lower today than yesterday 17% vs 30%. The secondary trap / filer i bought was rated at 30MPA which is only 4351 PSI, covers everything I own except the recently purchased Gauntlet 30 which can be filled to 31 Mpa / 4500 PSI / 310 BAR.

I wish I had realized that this one isn't going to cut it for a full 4500 PSI on the Gauntlet or on SCBA tanks filled to 4500, and had purchased something like this instead, which is rated for 40 Mpa / 5801.5 PSI / 399.99 BAR. But, it was cheap and compact and will be great for filling out in the field since I usually don't go all the way to 4500 on the Gauntlet when I am outdoors.

$30 5800 PSI / 40 Mpa 400 Bar trap / filter on Amazon.
