GX C4 or GX C4i

I was in the same situation and went with the cs4i. My logic is its all contained in one unit. 90% of my use will be in my house office to fill guns and a 6.8l tank. If i do have to travel with the compressor i would rathernot have to worry about an external power supply. I dont run it for extended periods of time so im not worried about it getting hot. All just my opinion and my own logic right or wrong lol good luck

Are you looking at the GX CS4 and CS4i? If so I went through the same debate and ultimately I wanted to have everything all in a single package so I opted for the CS4i. Can leave it at home or take it on the go, its light enough to just throw in the truck if needed. The only reliability concern I would have with the CS4i over the CS4 is the built in electronics could fail and would be potentially harder to replace. Similar to the old tv's with built in vcr; nice to have in a single platform but if one goes then you have an expensive paperweight. Fills my guns super quick but I haven't tried filling a tank yet. Hoping it has the power to fill the 74cuft air venturi tank I was just gifted.

How long does it typically take you to fill the 6.8l tank?

Which one for at home use? C4 or C4i I’ve been reading and can’t get a clear idea regarding the best dependibipity. Maybe some other entirely would be better. I’ve been using a JTS and it has developed problems so I would like an upgrade.
Tell us what is going on with your JTS compressor. If I am not mistaken, the JTS compressor is just a rebranded GX SC3-I unit and can be worked on fairly easily. Parts are available through GX and TargetForge should there be a need for replacments. Also, there are a number of YouTube videos that can walk you through most issues with the CS3 units.

I choose to purchase a GX CS4-I unit for the convenience of having the converter within the case. It just makes for a cleaner use when filling my guns at home.

Ive only topped off my tank once. I just got the compressor about a month or so ago and havent had time to shoot with work and a huge storm that wrecked about 40 trees in my yard. When i topped the tank it was almost full i just wanted to rum compressor with my newely added gadgets like dual temp metrr hour meter and water lights. It only needed 10 min to take tank to 310bar im guessing it was at 290 to 300 bar. I mainly shoot from my office window and fill my guns to 300 bar so my tank rarely gets below 270 bar. I would rather fill guns from tank than compressor. My logic is less moisture issues although I did put a external moisture filter on compressor. I live in the middle of nowhere and can shoot from wherever on my property so I dont have the need to be mobile with compressor or tank but I now have that option if needed. Like you thats why i went with the cs4i cause with the cs4 id prolly set the external powersuppy somewhere out of the way and forget where i put anyway now one less thing to find lol my compressor was a fleabay refurb so price was alot more tolerable

One thing to consider. External power supply means less heat being created inside the unit. Additionally if/when power supply fails it's a simple matter to replace verses have to open things up.
Fill times vary depending on how far you've depleted the tank. But these aren't fast fill compressors. The lower cfm means it generates less heat. The do have the 5hr run time, but for long fills I generally do 30min intervals to let it cool.
Mine CS4 has 100hrs, combination of tanks and direct filling a big bore. They're reliable, unless you get one with issues from the start.

I'm leaning to the CS4-i. The JTS fan won't turn off unless I unplug the unit. Started this after a brief night time power outage. It was working fine prior. I went downstairs and hurt a noice and it turned out to be the fan on the unit running, switch was of course off. Compressor seems to work put now it must be unplugged to turn off fan.
I'm out of the state at the moment and need to check it but I believe this is how my CS4-i works. When its plugged in the fan runs slow, then when its turned on and pumping the fan speeds up significantly.

Yes. The CS4-i does not have an on/off switch for the power supply. I installed an in-line on/off power switch on my CS4-i.

If I were to buy another compressor, I would buy the CS4 with the external power supply. Both the internal power supply and the compressor itself generate heat within the enclosure. This imposes unnecessary heat stress on all interior components, including cooling system, which may be acceptable if portability is a high priority. My CS4-i hasn't moved since I bought it and is unlikely to be moved during it's lifetime so, in the interest of longevity, I would prefer an external power supply.

I'm going to give another nod toward the CS4, for the same reasons as were already stated. Less heat generated inside the case (which can degrade performance of both the compressor and power supply), the power supply is easier to replace if needed, and then there's the cost difference! Direct from GX Pump, the CS4-i is over $100 more for essentially the exact same functionality/performance as the CS4! You can check the specs on their website:

I have the external power supply mounted under my bench, so it's out of the way, but still accessible. It runs cooler and so does the compressor. It's not much smaller than the CS4-i, but it is smaller and takes up less space on my workbench! Plus, ordering direct from GX Pump with code: GX10OFF will give you a 10% discount and they typically don't charge sales tax like Amazon and Walmart!

I bought the CS4 before the I model existed. I did mine own DIY to mount the PS to the case.

Try sending an email to GX Compressor ( [email protected] ) and ask support if they will help. It sounds as if the 'control board' in your unit is failing and this $20- part (https://gxpumpofficial.com/collections/accessories/products/cs4-cs4-i-circuit-board ) may be the repair piece you need.

You could also try sending Bill at TargetForge.net ( https://targetforge.net/contact-us ) and email to learn what he thinks of your compressor situation.

I did basically the same with my Xisico version of the CS3.
