GX 18 volt pump question

I have a portable GX compressor I’ve been happy with until recently. It’s slow but steady. Recently it has to run for awhile before it’ll start making pressure sometimes for 15-20 minutes. Once it starts building pressure it’s fine. I’m not against taking it apart but I don’t know what would be causing it. Can anyone tell me what I’m looking for? Thanks

I would guess a seal on the outbound side. Maybe the seal has to get warm or hot to fully seal . just an idea

Have the temperatures where you use the compressor gotten a lot cooler suddenly/recently? That might be why and goes along with what beerthief says.

I’m using it in my basement so the temperature hasn’t changed much

Put a plug in the fill line and see how long it takes.

Then, leave the plug in and turn off the power, without releasing the bleed valve. Listen for leaks. It should hold pressure...

Once it starts building pressure it’s fine. But it has to run for awhile before it’ll blow any air at all even out of the bleed valve if have that open

Take it apart. Clean and relube it. I suspect at least one of the check valves is dirty and not sealing correctly.

Perhaps a sticky check valve? Target Forge seems to be the GX guru, maybe check with them.

I took it apart and cleaned and oiled it and the check valve was dirty and sticky. Since I’ve cleaned and oiled that it’s worked fine

If you are like me and you have portable tool batteries around already you may not want to get a 18V compressor. Target Forge has a good video on converting the more typical 120V/12V compressor to run on power tool batteries. He used DeWalt but I have the superior Milwaukees. Doesn't matter except for the parts you need. If you do it this way, you have a compressor that runs on 120V, 12V, or 18V. Lots of versatility.
