Gun I don’t regret but……

Have you ever bought a gun that seemed just so right for you? Then you spend several months with it and you come to appreciate what it is and does? Then you take it out to the field and discover that despite all of its redeeming qualities it just does not work for you? You love the way the gun shoots, the accuracy has been very very good and it has not given you one single headache?

This is the position I find myself in with my Crown MKII 600mm in .25. The gun is perfect in every aspect except it just doesn’t fit my style of air gunning. I really thought I was going to find this a great gun. Turns out I do not like and do not want to deal with the length. It is just too much out in the field. After two feed lot shoots and two trips out for ground squirrels, on the third run for GS’s, I looked at the case in my back seat and said no, you ain’t leaving the truck today. It got passed over for my two bull pups.

The only good news to come out of this is that the Crown convinced me that I would not be dropping any money on a Panthera. Once again, despite all the wonderful attributes, I cannot get past the length.

Anyone else ever had something like this happen? Something that just focuses your attention to what you really want for your style of air gunning?

Yup! Got a couple pistols I didn't mind the style of using after some injuries...they are now carbine style and lovely to handle with my current mobility issues

Im familiar with the crown mkll continuum, love it with the 380mm barrel hate it with the 700mm unless bench shooting, it feels perfectly balanced with the 380, just a thought, maybe get a 380 for it?

Felt that way about an Uragan. The gun was flawless... tons of shots, accurate and felt good. For whatever reason, however, I just couldnt love it. Ended up trading it off and havent looked back. I'm still unsure what it was about that gun I just couldnt love though. It had everything going for it so I just have to think it was a 'me' issue. Nice to be on the other side of that realization for once!

I had one too. It was my first Crown MKII (GRS and I did not like the stock). I liked the little 380 but still preferred my Maverick Compact. Both were in 25 and shooting pellets.

Bought a new (for all intents and purposes) FWB300S Running Target 8 or so years ago. Drips with coolness. Put a 6.5-20 Leupold EFR with custom reticle on it. It is a sight to behold. Looks like a 1,000 yd. target rifle.

But shooting it? It's amazing out to 25 or 30 yds. but beyond that more powerful guns shooting heavier pellets faster have the real world advantage.

If they were common guns I would part with it in a heartbeat but as a friend said of primo collector guns, you don't own them, they own you and mine won't let me go, lol.

I had one too. It was my first Crown MKII (GRS and I did not like the stock). I liked the little 380 but still preferred my Maverick Compact. Both were in 25 and shooting pellets.

I came very close to getting the Maverick, i ended up getting the Impact 25 cal, i still kinda wish i had got the Maverick or the wildcat bottle version, they are all very good guns, i gave up early on in the slug shooting, most of my shots are in pellet range, yep, i love the Maverick compact.

Kind of the opposite for me. First off, let me say, I THOUGHT when I got my FX Royale 500 & FX Boss (.25 & .30 respectively) that they'd just be too long out in the field. NEVER been a problem & I love em both. This past year I was gifted a .22 Bobcat which I thought just wouldn't do it for me, especially after shooting more powerful calibers. BOY, was I wrong. It fits me perfectly and is an incredibly great performer. I'm a lucky man to have 3 guns I absolutely love & that never let me down!

Man how nice is that! Yep your a lucky guy! That Bobcat is a nice gun for sure, ive seen it on Teds holdover before, its a performer for sure!

I got a Gen1 Impact years ago that I intended to buy as an only and all around pcp, because of it's numerous barrel and slug options. I tinkered around with power and getting the Gen2 plenum and all for a couple of years. But I've been chasing the rabbits down and around the holes ever since and it sits idle as a shooter now, especially after getting the American Air Arms Slayer and then Evol. I should have started there; those are top of the line hunters and target shooters.

Over the past 18 months I have probably bought 6 rifles that I thought were going to be in my permanent collection. I’m not a collector, what I have, I shoot. Right now I’m at a Crown with 380, 500 and 700mm barrels in .22, a Wildcat Sniper in .22, a Huntsman Revere in .22, a HM1000x in .22 and a TX 200 in .22in, and lastly a Air Arms HFT500 in .177.
All the guns I sold I thought I couldn’t live without. They all performed very well. I’m going to say there’s pretty strong evidence I’m an impulse buyer. Maybe if there was an airgun showroom where I could handle them, admire them etc. I might have resisted temptation but it is what it is. I learn a little bit from each rifle and lose a little money but education isn’t always free.
As far as what I have now for hunting, it would be the Wildcat and the Huntsman.
The Wildcat is a little easier tuning than the Huntsman but the Huntsman is just a classy traditional rifle and may well be perfect the way Daystate sent it out.

That's how I felt about my .25 Daystate Air Ranger. Great gun, but I felt it was too big and heavy for a field fun and I don't need that power in a benchrest gun. (I don't do a ton of benchrest shooting.) So it went to a new home and I bought a HRXL. It's still quite accurate, but a lot handier for carrying in the woods.

I like the “education is not free” thought.
I dropped my Crown off at the local air gun shop. Had some misgivings about that but it is for the best.
Another shooter asked what I was going to replace it with. Cash, was the answer. I thought long and heard about what else would make a good fit for my hunting and nothing jumped right out at me. For now I am a two gun guy.

The crown is a long gun, but the 380 barrel made it better for me. I bought it as a 600, and while the stock is the most comfortable I’ve ever shouldered, the length of the barrel made it unrealistic for what I do. I swapped to a 380, and never looked back. I’m still able to shoot 18gn jsb’s at 920fps accurately, and it’s super maneuverable for my woods walking needs. Of course it won’t have the power of a maverick or any other bullpup due to the much smaller barrel, but I don’t need super power for squirrels and chipmunks.
