Ground Squirrel --- Robbing The Cradle --- Taipan Vet Long .25 + Hades

I went to get firewood at my GS permission, did so, and was surprised to see soooooo many juvenile GS running about. Of course I brought my Taipan and figured on MAYBE getting in a shot or two after firewood duties.

Filled the truck with oak and black walnut, nice stuff, and drove to The Honey Hole... talk about whack-a-mole!

I had to decide which short bus GS to shoot first. Of course I 'left some for seed'.

Shot 8 of them but they dropped into a gnarly wood pile and I left them there. Took individual pics, rather than a pile of them, because I really don't want to handle them.

The wood mill supervisor showed up after I filled the truck and informed me that the wood I cut was from the wrong pile. A week ago he said "take from the small pile separated from the rest of the logs in the area where the scrap was before"

Ok Boss, and I did just that. He didn't get pissy and I had him take a look in the truck and he was satisfied not seeing the black walnut buried under the oak. Phew, that's my permission and I gotta be careful.... no more wood cutting until there's a VERY CLEAR sign of what is being scrapped.

Johnny, great shooting on those GS's and very nice photos! Whew....you dodged a wood mishap! Just got back today from a mini vacation up in the Sierras....snowed everyday with high winds except for the day we left....today! LOL! We did get 2 hours in for trout but...there was only one caught luckily by me on a Kastmaster...nothing to write home about though, 6.5 hour journey, tired....

Mr. JohnnyPDX,

I know your Taipan Veteran .25 Long is amazing, but Come On Man, it launches Kastmasters too. What grain weight and color is best on Rain Bows??? Nice selection of K Ms, and did you modify the mag to feed these smoothly???

This trout went for a K M like the one in the row 2nd from the bottom and 2nd from the right, nice bright colors. I guess I should of got the .25 Taipan Vet Long, don't think my .22 could handle those K Ms. Maybe my better half will let me get a .25 Vet....

The Ground Squirrels sort of re-hibernated here, its been cold, some rain and a little snow put them back to sleep. The rats are still sniffing around, but I am a old wuss and hang out around the keyboard hunting and pecking too much!!!

Wood can and will always be a commodity of contention, when fuel prices rise my firewood stacks seem to magically deplete.

Good luck with your pesting/fishing, stay healthy and safe

That's a lovely trout and I bet 'the take' was quite good!!!

My threads wander and I like it that way. The KM's are a nice break from Rooster Tails because there's no line twist and hence less maintenance for me on the Missus' rod.

I am snipping off two points from the treble hooks and will start putting a Gamakatsu Siwash on them, love those sticky points and tipped with 1" of night crawler.

Congratulation to The Missus on that hook up and boating!

I mostly fish Gomakatsu for salt and fresh water. My friend is getting me into VMC, similar in design to Gomakatsu. I also use Owner & Mustad. He also just recently taught me the correct way to ring hooks and jigs.

Hmm...so you're a thief who lies to the people at his permission? A little short on ethics, are you?

Ethic | Definition of Ethic by Merriam-Webster
www.merriam-webster.com › dictionary › ethic
Ethics and morals are both used in the plural and are often regarded as synonyms, but there is some distinction in how they are used. Morals often describes one's particular values concerning what is right and what is wrong: It would go against my morals to help you cheat on the test.

Hey Randall I figured you'd like seeing a pile of lures!

I like a three of everything (minimum) cuz one will be red hot and I'll leave it on the bottom, my wife will want one and then I'm left with only one.

Really should get six of each but Geeze they are expensive.

I need to look at VMC cuz the Gamakatsu cannot be sharpened.

Lure are EXPENSIVE! Some of the trolling lures we use for tuna/wahoo cost 30-60...hurts when one of these are sheared off by a wahoo’s razor sharp teeth breaking 200lb wire leader! Just found and purchased surface and yo-yo jigs that are CNC machined not cast! For the price of one of these I could get 3 cast ones but the CNC milled ones are guaranteed to swim exactly the same! The machining is stunning on them....got me hook line and sinker! LOL! Oh..and I do luv seeing ALL THOSE BEAUTIFUL LURES! That is one gorgeous trout!

Ok Randall I'll not in the future claim that a Kasmaster is expensive. I know why you guys will pay the price and I understand... you're out on an expensive boat with $1000 (lot more probably) of fuel that WILL get used and so you gotta 'go all in'.

The reels are several hundred dollars each with $100 of line plus all the other stuff.

I get it and would love to see one of those CNC lures!

Have you ever tried the Vibric Rooster Tail? It has an offset body and does not twist up your line like the old style Rooster Tail. It has a different style blade which may or may not be good for trout in your area. The trout in the White river area of South Missouri and Arkansas like them.

Howdy. I've not tried those yet but I will because I like a full quiver when chasing them. We mostly catch and release when on trips so I am using single point Kastmaster, Rooster Tail and flies under a bobber. If I am getting skunked, hate that, I will drop them some power eggs with nightcrawler and salmon egg.

Thanks Man

Hey! A guy has got to do what a guy has to do!

Exactly! I'll put a worm on a fly if need be. SCORING IS IMPORTANT.

When trout fishing I mostly make SURE The Missus is setup correctly... fresh line, sharp hooks, right lures and the drag set properly. Lunch delivered to her when she's out in the kayak.

When The Missus is happy, all is well.
