Ground squirrel hunting near Scottsdale Az

How much on the spot kinetic energy do you guys think is actually required to dispatch a squirrel ethically?
I'm talking about proper shot placements to, i.e. head (in between the eyes) or into mid-torso (spine and neck areas).

Haha, I've only hunted squirrels in the Cabela's Outdoor Adventures 2010 video game, there was a side mission in which I was tasked with shooting a tiny little squirrel with a buckshot loaded pump-action 870 Nitro-Express. One of the best games I've ever played, still one of my favourites... They just don't make them like they used to, anymore. On another virtual occasion, I've shot squirrels in Fallout New Vegas, but I lost the mod and the game files somewhere along the road; I wish someone still had the .esp's and all of the other necessary files for the squirrels and the alligators in the Colorado river... Too bad they were lost to time, but then again, the game is 12+ years old.

New Vegas is till around🤙
I think of it like this(how I explained it to my lady) take that amout(ft lbs of energy) and imagine it's a lead weight. Fps doesnt matter. It's a weight. Drop X amount of weight on certain animal. Would they survive?😅🤷‍♂️
Personally I think even just a couple pounds of weight to a squirrels' body is going to detrimental to its health no matter where it gets hit

True! I looked it up earlier, there's actually a chart for that, which shows exactly how much ft lbs is minimally required to take a certain critter.
I know that feet per second doesn't really matter all that much, as long as the projectile is heavy and shot from such a distance, at which it retains enough energy to inflict a lethal amount of damage, but I think that having a pointed or even a domed pellet is a plus in a hunting situation, because you get good penetration, even if the projectile is traveling at a lower speed - fps that is.

However, I'd have to argue with this chart in regards to shooting Javelinas, I saw Keith Warren on youtube, shoot a Javelina sized hog in the head, right between the eyes and a bit bellow the ears in the direction of its eyes, with a Gamo Whisper X, which would generate 16 ft/lbs of muzzle energy with JSB Exact Jumbos 15.89gr (just like my Gamo Black Bear does, it has the same power plant as the Whisper X - same diameter of the compression chamber, it's just the barrel that's different) , and which would deliver roughly 11 ft/lbs of energy at 25 yards, and that was clearly enough to take out a wild pig with a spring-piston driven break barrel @22 something yards! So with these larger critters, the shot placement is in fact crucial!

Check this out, if you haven't seen it already:

Btw, I actually have sort of a hobby in the field of computer graphics art, I know how to make 3D animations and such, and folks have generally stated that I make quite nice 3D models and textures for them... Of course there's always room for self-reflection and improvement and I'm trying the best I can, but a year or two ago, I couldn't have waited any longer to make myself some air-rifles for Fallout: New Vegas, I've made mods before, for both FNV and Fallout 4, but I've never seen anyone make airguns, as mods for either FNV or FO4; In general, I never saw any air rifles in video games, not even in the hunting ones, except in the 'Hunter:Call of the wild', there's a big bore .45 slugger in that game. So, with that having been said, I made the following guns so far: Weihrauch HW77K and 97K (three stock variants), Hawke Airmax scope for it, Benjamin Discovery and Maximus, RTI Priest II, and the Hatsan 125, which is currently in production. Right now, I have to set up a new computer and then I'll get back to work.

When I'm done with a couple of more; Including the Hatsans and I also wanted a Slavia 634, I'm going to comile everything together and upload the mod to Nexusmods, from where you'll also be able to download the mod, if you're going to want to have airguns in New Vegas 😎
