This morning I went for an early morning target shooting(well..it was 9:00AM though) in the hills behind my house where I almost always go ,but
the powder burners guys were already there ,so, I switched to my 'B' spot located about 150/200 yards from the "A" spot, and immediately saw GS activity.but
they were far away(over 150 yards).
The wind was blowing hard, maybe in the 10/15 mph
It took me several shots to get the range and wind together, but to be honest , when shooting at long distances with wind involved, and the squirrels moving around in a
fast fashion, there has to be a good dose of luck .
When I hit it,I've herd the twack noise associated with a solid hit,and I saw it drop and a tail spin, but I wasn't sure, because another one popped up close to this one ,giving me the sense that I've missed the shot .
So,I've got my butt off the chair armed with the range finder, camera, and Colibri in hand just in case I spot a rattle snake or something else .
I had to look around for a bit to find it in the tall grass .
Never the less, there's no doubt of what damage a .22 caliber pellet can do even at these long ranges .
The ground squirrels are though cookies and can take a punch .
It always amaze me what this guns can do . I try to push them to their limits as far as distances ,and they seems to never disappoint .
Anyways, here it is ,clocked from the squirrel to the back of my car : **145 yards**
PS: my longest ever was a ground squirrel at 165 yards with my .25 JKhan
