Thanks. Truth in advertising, I was aiming about 1/2" to 3/4" lower than I actually hit (squirrel was standing up). I was going for the heart/lung shot, but the neck shot passed right through. He did the squirrel twitch and flop for about 5 seconds and then stopped dead...

I hope I can get like you one day. . . right now shots at 50 or so yards are about as far as I will go right now

Thanks. And I'd like to be able to shoot like Ted, Tominco or BWalton. It's all about perspective. It's also about where you shoot and what you shoot. I almost never get shots inside of 50 yards with either my .30 FX Bobcat or .22 Daystate Renegade. I'd say the average is 60 to 80 yards. Ground squirrels and jack rabbits that aren't used to people are very skittish. I'd love to get shots inside of 50 yards.

Just curious, when squirrel hunting do you shoot offhand or from a bench or shooter sticks?? If you did that offhand you are da man!

Yikes! I’d like to see the shooter that could do that off hand. There’d be world championships and Olympic gold medals in his future! 
. I use a small 3 legged camp seat and bipod type shooting sticks. Sometimes I shoot off hand but normally inside of 40 yards. Doesn’t happen that often. Ground squirrels don’t usually let you get inside of 60 yards or so.

I smack a lot of tomato killing grays in my backyard. I am getting rid of a lot of my powder burners and using some air guns for a bit. Just looking forward to shooting a bit again. With the ammo scare and prices being what they are. Keep me in mind about our Chinese friends, the motor mount on mine has cracked. And I would take CA over KS any day lol..

What really helps pulling off those long shots is shooting more at longer ranges. I rarely shoot closer than 50-60 yards. Most of my plinking is at 80-90, this has allowed me to work out to 125 yards with confidence. It wasn't always like that and it showed. 100 yards used to be almost impossible to shoot at will and now I expect to connect every time at that range. All due to thousands of rounds learning your gun and how wind works against and for you. Some people think shooting a squirrel or bird at 100 yards is a one in a thousand shot but get sighted in, use a range finder and it is very obtainable. Practice at extended ranges is the key.
