I recently purchased 100 22 grain AVS slugs with a cupped base to see how they shoot in my Taipan Veteran long. Initial results are outstanding! I shot twelve 3 shot groups at 104 yards. The wind was gusting between 2 to 6 mph from the Northwest. Half of the 3 shot groups were sub MOA, and overall average for the 12 groups was also sub MOA. The results were better than both the flat based NSA and Varmint Knocker Slugs I’ve tried to date.
This is a small sample size, so take it with a grain of salt but the cup base of the AVS slugs seems to be outperforming the flat based slugs I’ve tried from NSA and Varmint Knockers. I did shoot the AVS slugs 30 fps faster than the NSA and Varmint Knocker slugs, so the different velocity might also be a factor.
Group sizes averaged 24.9 cm center to center. Groups sizes were: 7, 44, 34, 32, 21, 12, 27, 32, 43, 18, 14, 15.
