About two weeks has past since my initial chronograph test on the new Wildcat MK2 .25 (standard). With the Huma installed still at 135 bar I’ve ran some shot strings, 4 magazines (8 shots each) just verifying my fps and fpe. Shooting JSB and Air Arms 25.4 grains, I think she’ll be fine as my primary pcp hunter. I think it’s decent enough consistency. The low chronograph results were after a refill. Idk cold air maybe?

JoeKool, You have done great work on your rifle so far, but I would like to make a suggestion if I may. Your very best accuracy with those JSB 25.4 out of that particular rifle will probably be at a velocity of more like 900 ft/s than 939 ft/s. And from the ragged numbers your getting over the chrono I believe you regulator is still set to high. Just as an experiment I would like to suggest that you lower your Huma down by another 10 Bar and then readjust your hammer spring tension accordingly.

First, I think it will give you an average velocity at your peak of adjustment of from 880-900 ft/s - which is the optimal velocity for the Kings out of your rifle. Second, I think once your reg settles in to the new setting your chrono numbers will smooth way out to 4 or 5 ft/s extreme spread, and a standard deviation closer to around 2 ft/s. Also I think you will begin to see a lot more "duplicates" on your chrono. Third, by lowering your reg another 10 Bar I believe you will pick up a few more shots out of a fill up....maybe another mag's worth.

And do not try to lower your average pellet velocity by just adjusting your hammer spring nut because you will just be wasting air on every shot that way. Remember, your hammer spring tension should always be set at its peak of performance for any particular regulator setting. E.g. if your velocity is too high at a certain setting then you must lower the reg setting and readjust the spring tension to the peak velocity over your chronograph. Then once you are at your peak of performance you may even want to back off your hammer spring nut 1/8th of a turn so that your chrono numbers tighten up closer and smooth way out for you. So that your rifle will perform at its peak of performance for you, during its smoothest shot cycle, and yet give you the most shots possible without wasting any air per shot.

I apologize if my suggestion offends you in any way...I don't mean to be a busy body but when I saw those ragged jagged numbers your getting on your post up above I just felt compelled to say something. I hope this test will bring forth the results for you that I believe it will.

All the best, Chuck

Thanks Bob_0 & Chuck!!

No offense at all Chuck. You’re absolutely right on the optimum speed for this pellet and efficiency of air usage by lowering reg pressure. I’m well aware of it. I’ve found through lots of shooting, testing, and research all of what you’ve said is true. But I tune my pcp’s (all FX’s) for slightly higher than factory posted fpe energies and fps velocities. I absolutely don’t mind a 20ish and under extreme spread. I’ve found with many different airguns and several years of a lot of shooting targets and hunting (springers included). Same point of impact occurs if when the es is kept 20 or below. I’ve found smooth twist and smooth twist x barrels are even more forgiving in this area. Even more so than my Lothar Walther barreled airguns. One jagged whole or half inch groups at 50 with these setups all day. I’ve proven to myself my theory on my power tunes. Again, just slightly above factory posted powers. I know and believe you’re right in what you suggest. But large numbers of clean kills at 20 to 75 yards with the FX Streamline (HUMA) and Crown already have me with very little concern to fine tune any further. Plus the trajectory of the lower 900’s is the sweetest to me. I zero every thing at 20 yards and they shoot flat out to 45 yards. A half mildot holder for every 5 yards added after that. If I were competing I absolutely would tune for maximum efficiency and pinpoint consistency. My guns are killers not benchrest winners.

My way has worked for me for a long time Chuck, I sincerely hope you don’t take offense either. Constructive criticism is great 👍🏽

Yes I sometimes forget that there is Target accuracy and then hunting accuracy... and I have also found it to be true with both of my rifles that even with an extreme spread of 30 feet per second I can put most of my shots in a half inch at 50 yard. Thanks for your informative reply. As for me I'm off to bed early tonight the good night all.

Best regards, Chuck
