N/A Got an accurate gun? 100 yard 5x5 challenge

Couple 6x5s shot from this gun in the last few days, also from bucket and sticks.

First time I've shot the gun since the second week of July at an EFT Grand Prix. Tied for 3rd at that match but there were ties above that too, so didnt officially place with it. Won that same EFT grand Prix with this gun in 2024.

.22 Taipan Veteran 1st gen with an RTI "LR" barrel in it.
It likes MRDs at around 950ish.
This tin of pellets was unproven, a tin I won at a recent ft match raffle. This particular barrel is more tolerant of crappy MRD batches than most.

Again, gun is more accurate than this, me, from the stool and sticks was the limiting factor.

The two middle groups of this first one show where I was holding for the wind. Frustrating to hold there when the wind dies and have it go right where you're holding. But such is 100 yard pellet shooting.

Averaging all 12 groups, make the single bull scores come in at about a 43-44. Which would be the five bull score around 215-220. Not bad, from stool and sticks.

Shot this one a few days ago.

Ghost .20/18.9grain NSA slugs at 915-920ish.
Shot from stool and sticks. Took a couple sighters and then shot the 5x5. Last one is a really good single group, 229 overall EBR-type score.

This gun and slug will do better, when shot from a bench.

Cole,

When are you going to finally sell me that .20/caliber? You don’t need it.

I can use this nicely for my 30/40/50 yard paper target shooting.

Took this target last Thursday on a trip to the range and forget to pull it before leaving. Went back today and it was thankfully still posted and no one else had shot it up.

RTI Mora .25 600mm Standard. Altaros 66gr King slugs @ 895fps. Reg @ 200 bar.

That's a good one.

If I'm reading your handwriting correctly, your average is 1.098" which is 1.045moa. One of the better 5x5s that's been shared.

Thank you - the Mora with the Altaros is a nice combo. More expensive to shoot than other ammo options - but always produces some nice groups.

And, LOL - yeah I've got the handwriting of a 5 yr old. The targets are:
  • 1.13"
  • 0.95"
  • 0.92"
  • 0.95"
  • 1.34"

My handwriting is chicken scratch.

And yes, I read something wrong initially. With that info, your average is 1.058" which is 1.0103 moa.

I got the exact same average for 25 shots. 1.058”

MOA for 25 shots with heavy .66g slugs. Those RTI guns are great. Nice shooting.

Cole!, you are getting some good input on your challenge. Very refreshing to see.

Came across some old ones...

This is the .22 MRD "Lights" from a Ghost @ 950-960.
Benched. Three of the five are close to MOA

This is from a .20 Veteran, and a bit short of 100, at only 95 yards. Benched. Using JSB .20/15.89s. Also, was shot after dark, which is almost like cheating.

And this next one is from the same .22 Veteran Long I mentioned earlier in the thread. Shot the same night as the one just above this. Benched. 95 yards. .22 Monster RDs.

And one from some JSB Grands (.22/28.55). Also from the Ghost. Around 950-960fps. Benched. Two or three of the five here are MOA, or close to it.

Per the 100 Yard 5x5 Challenge, and my prediction that my custom .177 QB might be a shoe-in for the Most Improbable Slug Gun class title, today's 1.22" c-t-c average at 100-

The rifle is a $159, 1990s vintage, Chinese QB 77 Deluxe with the original barrel and action, converted from dual-Co2 cartridge power to regulated air bottle, in a custom stock I had made a half-century ago for a Crosman 160, firing 16 grain H&N slugs at 894 FPS/28.4 FPE. Suffice to say she runs with the big boys just fine.

.

I like it Ron, I like it a lot.

In my opinion, there's not enough low power/high precision in the current industry push for big power. Your entry is exactly what I love about airguns.

The .22 700 Panthera is coming along as a dedicated, tethered bench gun at 100 yards. I'm just about ready to try it at 200. The turning point in getting this rifle to shoot was the replacement of A12 (valvetube end) with new part No. FX21004. The new part does not have the two clamp screws.
Other changes were removal of the shroud and removal of the grip. The trigger is now operated by pinching between the thumb and forefinger.

This particular rifle will not shoot untethered. It has a Huma regulator that tends to follow the pressure in the bottle. As bottle pressure drops, the reg pressure also drops by a small but significant amount and groups open up.

As I said, this is a dedicated bench gun.

Here are two five group, five shot targets from this morning.

Hey Jack

50 shots, almost all ten ( 8 of 10) five shot groups are sub MOA at 100y, and outdoors to boot! Those Altaros slugs are really good.
