N/A Got an accurate gun? 100 yard 5x5 challenge

Think your gun is really accurate at 100 yards?

Prove it.

Simple premise, 5 groups of 5 shots each @ 100 yards.
Kudos for no sighters, but I doubt we'll have much participation if we go that route, so sighters are allowed.

Slugs or pellets, pick your poison.

Please include details like: gun/scope/projectile/speed/etc.

If you've got a gun that shoots like this "all day" post up two or three of the challenges (50-75 shots) to help us believe you're not cherry picking.

Similar challenges have come up in the past. And they don't get much participation. I suspect it's because guys are sorely disappointed when the rubber meets the road and they actually have a chance to stretch out the distance.

But I'd love to be proven wrong and see a bunch of awesome 100yard 5x5s here.

I tried this some time ago...not many takers..

I don’t have 100 otherwise I would showcase my lack of skill. Awhile back the backfire channel on YouTube did a similar thing. They posted on social media where they were and invited anyone to show up, pull their rifle out of the case and fire a 3 shot moa group at 100. Pretty much everyone failed. I think one person pulled it off. Maybe I will post here at 73 yards if not many participate. I generally cannot get moa at 73. Lol.

Just three groups at 100 yards.

Vulcan 3 700 mm .25 Cal and JSB knockout‘s

It started raining and the 5X5 was not possible:

Can SIX consecutive five-shot groups enter?

Yes, outdoors. Front and rear sandbags, lightweight wooden bench on a wooden deck.

If I don't forget, I'll enter the .177 category next time the winds cooperate. Shoe-in for the Most Improbable Slug-Gun title-

Ok my horrible shooting. Very low wind, the only excuse besides lack of skill is my ghetto arse bench. I’m sure it doesn’t help. Wildcat mk3 bottle .25 shooting 33.95 FX 900-910. I only have 73 yards. Hate to admit these are 73 yards but they are. First group was solid. Measured that just a hair over moa at .75. Downhill from there.

Here it is.

At some shots there were sudden wind.

5 X 5 groups.

100 yards.

Now AVS .251 Cal 38 grain slugs.

Remember I do not shot from a bipod and I am not an EBR shooter, so you can do it much better than myself.

We are evaluating the capabilities of the rifle, not my shooting:

Well I finally set up are 100 yards with my Taipan Vetran 2 tactical 700mm. Shooting JSB KO slugs at 953 fps. The center group was no flyer. The one to the left was definitely me. Plus on the same group lost count and didn't shoot all 5 only 4 on the center target. I put the rifle away or I would have fired another. It wasn't until I retrieved the target that I realized I only shot 4. The average was 1.546 ctc. Including the one I didn't have correct sight alignment. I'll take it.

I hope to try this challenge with my first major project gun P15. I remembered shooting good groups at 100 with it with pellets when I ironically built it as a slug gun. I took the NV off it last night and put its OG Discovery scope back on. Had a 3mph wind I didn’t feel like dealing with because I’ll be shooting 25.39gr pellets. Going to clean the slug goo out of the barrel now and hopefully be able to shoot the 5x5 tonight. The reason I’m going to use this gun is because this is what this topic is all about. I did shoot a good group or two at 100 eight years ago when I built the gun. But I never shot group after group at 100 with pellets to truthfully declare the gun a good 100 yard gun. I might be disappointed. But up until now if someone asked how it’s shoots at 100 with pellets, I would have said good. Kinda that half truth I talk about often.

Cole...maybe you could just make it a 50y slug 5x5 challenge. Lots more could participate.

The goal should be 5 consecutive 5 shot groups on the same paper at 1 moa or below....not average of the 5 groups. In my opinion, of course.

Mike

Thanks Mike.

Your idea of accuracy is at a completely different level than most. Just an average of the 5x5 challenge under moa @ 100 is a tall order for most people and most guns.

No argument from me about how 50 yards is much more accessible to most. And also more reasonable for an airgun to achieve moa at 50. There's just this trend about 100 yard accuracy claims that I was hoping to educate about....an emphasis on reality I suppose. And of course if there's as many 100yard submoa capable airguns floating around as claimed....well, I'd love to be made aware of them.

I had perfect conditions after I got done eating. Zero wind, not even a dusk thermal disturbance. I knew I had my elevation close but I had a 2-3mph right to left today after I cleaned the barrel and started the seasoning process. I started on the center and was slightly surprised with what I saw. I clicked the scope right and shot the remaining four targets. What I saw on targets 2 & 3 was what I optimistically hoped for. What I saw transpiring on 3 & 4 was a little shocking. Almost wasn’t going to post this because if someone else with a lightweight P15 would post this target, I’d call BS.

Gun is a P15 .25 shooting FX 25gr washed and lubed. Scope is a decent Discovery SFP and I was on 21X. Gun has a TJ barrel, Huma reg, custom plenum, hammer and spring. Atlas bipod weighted with sand bags to help the lightweight gun.

I might walk down and put up another target and do this again. I’m a skeptical guy and I think I just got lucky with 3 of those groups.
