First of all great job plinker. You sure have a lot of nice wood working tools. Are you just a handy guy or are these skills you have related to your job. Bill

Airgunbill, I'm a Dentist by trade, and this is my first rifle stock. I've done pistol grips, knife handles and scales, decoys, puzzles etc. I'm 54 so I have accumulated a lot of tools over the years. My wife and I have renovated 2 older homes and have done all of the framing, plumbing, electrical work, so I do call myself a handyman. If I can buy a tool and do the job for less than a contractor I do it, and that means I get to keep the tool! The only two things my wife says she won't do again are placing and finishing hardwood floors and laying sod. I almost wore her out. I was my dads sidekick growing up and at 84 he still does all of his own stunts. I've learned a lot from him.
Glengiles, thanks. I didn't even know you could sharpen bits until I was in my 30's. I have a friend that teaches machine tool technology and I took some courses from him in the evenings to learn mill, lathe, cnc etc. I've made my own muzzle brakes etc on my firearms. Those tools aren't cheap! All I have is portable because my kids call me all of the time. It has been nice to work on a project like this for fun. I have two grandkids and found out yesterday there is one more on the way, so time is limited! ; )

I love woodworking when I get a chance. I built a electric guitar from scratch a few years ago, and know how much measuring it takes before any router cut. Also building patterns for that fact. I always wanted to do a nice stock. My wish is that I could checker. I would like to do one out of figured maple. I always liked the look of a blond stock.

Thanks Dirte. You've got the skills for sure if you've done a guitar. I know what you mean about time. I have so many things I'd like to try, that I'm afraid I won't get to all of them. I have gotten some checkering tools, but I too haven't had time to work on the skill.

I have been gunsmithing for over 12 years, but have never attempted to make a stock nor will I!! I have done simple stock repairs and in letting to fit actions, but never what you are doing. Guys like you and Gunner have alot of talent and thanks for sharing your journey!!

Thanks aj. I have a lot of respect for gunnertrones, he did a great portion by hand. I really appreciate the design FX came up with for the wildcat. I think its one of their better ones. It amazes me how small the gun is. You have quite a talent tuning these pcps. Maybe one day I'll get the nerve to tinker more with them. We had bad weather Friday so I spent a lot of time cutting up a huge oak that got blown over in our back yard. Fortunately it fell away from the house. We had a dinner with our kids that evening and found out we will be adding another grandchild to the quiver. Whoohoo! Looking forward to getting back to the carving fun.

True it may be that TN is know for Hardwood, but not the KEWL woods that guyhandles.
Like Plinker said, his prices are reasonable too!
My 219 DWasp may be wearing a new buttsock in the near future after all of these years.
Hope the change after wearing the 2nd rebuilders idea of a stock after 40 some odd years does not make her less accurate.

Step four started. New pictures added at bottom of first post in thread. Shaping with hand tools and gloved to keep body oils off. Starting to look 'real'.
