First gopher I've seen this year. Looks like he's jumping out of his hole but his jumping days are over. The Impact Mkll Compact and CPHP's made sure of that.

Yes looks to be. If people in South Dakota are anything like people in MT they like to call ground squirrels gophers. I have no idea why but thats the common name used here in MT for ground squirrels.

Perhaps and it's not a subject I wish to have way too much fun with on this forum.
I know that. our friends in the frozen north call ground squirrels gophers, most of the thawed out folks know the difference.

We call them gophers, I've heard that northern SD has ground squirrels and they're a bit bigger

Here in ND the Richardson ground squirrel is known as the the flickertail and we do call the 13 line ground squirrel a gopher.
