good group size for a break barrel

One of my good friends and fellow forum member RM100Guy, frequently sends me pictures of groups under 1/2 inch at 40 yards off his knee, seated. Often the groups are as small as 3/8 inch.
I can't do it, but it can certainly be done. Just takes about 40 years to master, LOL!

And everything has to be in place equipment-wise.

Position shooting is more a score discipline than group size. If you look at the targets used in air rifle and small bore position shooting, most shots will be touching the center ring in the better scores. They will not all be "X" shots, but most will touch, or be very close to the center ring. It is a humbling experience, but that should give you an idea of your goal. You might try shooting a few 10 meter targets, a closer distance but a small target.

Mastering @ 10 yards comes first , then go for 15 yds then ............
This. The nice thing is you learn hold over and under when practicing. I have all of my springers zero'ed at 50 yards off of a bag. Practicing at different yardages teaches you how to shoot the rifle. A small target on a white background shows the best impacts.

Definately takes some practice. I bought a Beeman R9 to have an open sight practice rifle. The stock does not allow a good cheek weld since the diopter sights are so low. Just shooting in my basement 12 yard range is frustrating. Really are hold sensitive and need a loose grip to let the gun recoil into your shoulder the same every time.
Hmmmmm.....😉

I use diopters a lot. Mostly on a springer. Well only on a springer. My Garden is too small really for scoped guns 27 yards tops. I have just sold in the last few weeks three 10 meter ex olympic recoilless springers a Diana 75 and two FWB300's. A 300s and a 300su. This is the FWB300su and the Diana 75. The FWB is the top gun. Both these guns shoot without a shudder of recoil the FWB is a springer and the lower gun the Diana works on the Giss system. They are around 50 years of age. Both these gune are 10 meter Specialists. I am old and feeble and my arms are disappearing at an alarming rate so I shoot these heavy guns rested. My Springer is a long HW77 tuned down to 9.5ftlbs to lessen recoil. The surprising thing is before I sold these guns I used to shoot them of against each other and i could easily beat these guns with the recoiling springer from any distance from 10 meters to 27 yards . That was one of the factors in my decision to sell them. As a matter of interest the FWB300 at 6ftlbs a long time ago held the World Record for the number of Rabbits killed in a night. edit missing the Diana 75 pic.
