All this "tough guy" BS about not caring about making a humane kill in this thread is just childishness. If you don't value the life you take (even if it is a pest) you shouldn't be taking it because your head is in the wrong place. You owe that animal a clean kill.

Just my two.

Son, tone it down.

My father is long dead and you wouldn't have made a pimple on his ass on your best day.... Don't call me son and we will get along fine.

I disagree, a pass through is wasted energy.

Missing the mark is wasted energy, sir. You can cripple a ground hog with a shotgun and slugs if you try hard enough.

I've hunted groundhogs since about 1965 in half a dozen different states. I've used multiple AGs, .22LR, 22 K-Hornet, .22-250, 25-20, .243, .270, 30-30, and a .50 flintlock. I've never had to shoot one four times and if I had, I would not have documented it in slow motion and posted it on YouTube BECAUSE it is a horrible representation of our sport.

I've lost Ground hogs. I understand one can muff a shot. I don't believe in allowing "fliers" as an excuse while hunting. Fliers on paper not a problem. Fliers while hunting? You don't know your equipment well enough or you would not be excusing your misses by calling them fliers.

Two problems with the video. First it sends a very bad message about the sport. Second he CLEARLY failed to do HIS JOB when he bludegeoned that GH to death with a hail of pellets. One shot. Two at most. By the time you get to three you had better be kicking your own ass rather than bragging about your performance.

You also represent all hunters when you post a video up on YouTube ~ That makes my opinion relevant.

Just my two.

Agree 100%. This is the second or third time I have seen such a post on AGN relatively recently. All of us make bad shots, but not all of us video it/post it on YT and then brag about it and blame the pellet for our bad shooting! Says a lot about the OP.

Reminds me of the post about killing a Robin... (heavy sigh)

Accuracy/precision and shot placement is EVERYTHING if you intend to kill humanely. This was not the case here. The shooter is solely responsible. Not the pellet nor the gun.

I watched the video and read this thread about an hour ago and moved on. It’s been eating at me the entire time. Have to speak out.

First you need to know where I’m coming from. I’ve been a hunter since the mid 1960’s. Upland, waterfowl and big game. I was a big game guide in Colorado in the 70’s and 80’s. Eliminating pests safely is what got me into airguns about 20 years ago. Here’s my opinion….

Totally agree with cornpone’s statement above. After the 2nd shot in the video I said out loud, shoot, shoot, shoot! What took so long for the third shot?!! If you’re going to take a life, pest or game, you have an obligation for a clean kill. Yes, I know this is ideal and sometimes things happen but PLEASE commit to ending that life quickly or quit pesting/hunting.

Your excuse/justification for an animals suffering because it did damage to your foundation is immature. Years ago my daughter twisted her leg after falling in a badger hole while running on our property with her friends. My medical bills make your cost of foundation repairs pale in comparison. Eliminating that badger became a priority for me but took time and patience and many nights of stakeouts to get a humane shot since the bastard avoided traps.

In summary, I completely understand where you’re coming from but strongly urge you to strive for cleaner and quicker kills.
