This bastard is huge! I believe it was one that was chasing my wife the other day, so now it's chasing daisies.

Great shooting on that fatty 💪

Almost seems like you're not getting enough penetration with those p-mags.

Have you shot any groundhogs with 9mm domes?

I disagree. That is the worst shooting I have seen in a very, very, long time. I'm sorry but you could run out there with a stick and beat that GH to death more efficiently than he killed that poor beast. Four shots at forty yards and he can't get one into the brain pan? Perfect example of how to torture an animal to death with a freakin' rifle that should end it in one shot.

OOF! That 2nd shot to the face!

Yeah... just got home and watched it on the big screen.

Had originally watched only the 1st shot.

I most definitely agree the Polymags were a poor ammo selection for this beast. My first round that I fired was a JSB Exact, as I've been trying to put them in rotation.

This really was a job for the NSA 142gr slugs, to be honest.

I disagree, a pass through is wasted energy.

I agree with this statement wholeheartedly. Nevertheless, I don't think there was enough penetration with the Polymags, even at +160 fpe.

How do you balance which ammo to shoot when you can have such a wide variety of game? I've dropped a many groundhogs at 70 yards with Polymags to the body through the shoulder, and they never moved again, but I've shot the same sized pest at 25 yards with the slugs and they take off running.

I guess I'm looking for what we all are looking for the perfect ammo that works on any game at any distance.

So let me repeat, so I don't have to repeat this again.

I've had over $10K in foundation repairs to my property because of groundhogs. This is the 19th groundhog I've killed since may. I took me seven hours at this property to wait for the opportune time to get this bastard.

If I get a clean kill shot, I'll take it. If I can just blow his guts out, I'll take that shot too. If I only get a chance to blow his foot off so he can't dig anymore, then that's what the hell I'm going to take.

With that said, the second shot I took with the Polymag was a complete flyer. That round should have dropped down the ear and it would have been the end of the story. If I didn't show you the slo-mo video you wouldn't have known a thing. Better yet, you could have just seen the still photo and it would have been the perfect kill.

Keep posting about your perfect marksmanship all you want, but if your honest, you've all had a flyer, even if you refuse to admit it.

Well, if you’re accurate enough with Polymags to take the ground hogs at 70 DRT then I would use them at 25yds as well.

Not sure about the slugs, if they are not expanding at close range and relative high velocity maybe they are not the right ones for your purpose. Maybe a softer slug?

I know you have some talking junk about a “humane” kill. Thats all it is…..junk. Squirrels, deer, hogs, coyotes have all run with the heart and lungs turned to mush. Besides, after watching what Mother Nature does to her own “humane” doesn’t even enter into it any more. My goal is DRT with minimal meat damage. I don’t like to have to track through the mesquite or swamps depending on my hunting area and I don’t like wasted meat. It has nothing to do with “humane”.

25 cal shot to the head at 85yards much more effective and much less suffering for the animal please practice more

I don't think this one at 105 yards suffered:

Or this one at 67 yards:

Or this one at 68 yards with a .25 cal:

But I did have to take two shots on these two:

And this one:

So I guess I have not achieved the level of marksmanship Zen that the enlightened amongst us have attained.

Oh well, to each his own.

Yeah, I've said my peace, and I'll not address it anymore. I was so shocked that the Polymags gave me a flyer on the second shot, as that should have been an Instakill to the gray matter.

Missing the mark is wasted energy, sir. You can cripple a ground hog with a shotgun and slugs if you try hard enough.

I've hunted groundhogs since about 1965 in half a dozen different states. I've used multiple AGs, .22LR, 22 K-Hornet, .22-250, 25-20, .243, .270, 30-30, and a .50 flintlock. I've never had to shoot one four times and if I had, I would not have documented it in slow motion and posted it on YouTube BECAUSE it is a horrible representation of our sport.

I've lost Ground hogs. I understand one can muff a shot. I don't believe in allowing "fliers" as an excuse while hunting. Fliers on paper not a problem. Fliers while hunting? You don't know your equipment well enough or you would not be excusing your misses by calling them fliers.

Two problems with the video. First it sends a very bad message about the sport. Second he CLEARLY failed to do HIS JOB when he bludegeoned that GH to death with a hail of pellets. One shot. Two at most. By the time you get to three you had better be kicking your own ass rather than bragging about your performance.

All this "tough guy" BS about not caring about making a humane kill in this thread is just childishness. If you don't value the life you take (even if it is a pest) you shouldn't be taking it because your head is in the wrong place. You owe that animal a clean kill.

You also represent all hunters when you post a video up on YouTube ~ That makes my opinion relevant.

Just my two.
