Hey. I joined to hopefully score a used gk1 in the classifieds. Is it still the king in its category of pcp? Anything new on the horizon?

Please read the archives and listen to Greg's YouTube videos. These pistols are so good few, if any, will be sold on the used market. Lastly, don't be lazy. Everybody has an opinion, but just how correct it is is open to personal interpretation. If you don't do the end evaluation yourself, your effort will hold no value.

The Western Airgun's Mordax select full auto air pistol might be considered as a competitor to the GK1. Depends on what a person plans to use the pistol for and what they think is more important (power/size/trigger/magazine etc.)
I check the Classifieds fairly often and often find Huben GK1 pistols listed, 4 of them were listed and sold in June and I sold one myself earlier this year.
The GK1 is exceptional and moderately sized for an air pistol. The power is adjustable over a broad range and the semiauto works as advertised. It isn't so much a matter of whether to get a GK1 if you spot a good deal on one. It's more a matter of which caliber, and whether you want to pay extra to get a compact version with a shortened barrel.
A lot of people who read this forum have unused airguns which they intend to sell some day, but they never get around to taking the pictures and posting an ad and setting an asking price. You might consider posting a 'Want to Buy' ad in the Classifieds which specifies exactly what you are looking for, and asking if anyone is willing to sell you one. I've sold a couple of items over the years to people who happened to want what I had laying around unused.
One of the nice things about the GK1 model is that service and optional accessories are easily available. Folding butt stocks, Picatinny rails for the top and bottom if needed. The shorter GK1 is easier to handle and doesn't give up much on power and capacity compared to the standard length. They are pricey but overall offer an excellent balance of power and size and function.
In fact, it probably makes sense to own at least 2 of them, a Short .25 GK1 for holster carry, and a Standard .22 GK1 setup as a mini carbine with a folding stock.
Warning: This is how people talk themselves into owning 2 or more version of the same airgun

The GK1 is still likely the pistol that all other semi-auto PCP pistols are judged against.
I'm not sure why but I personally like the Mordax a little better. Maybe because I'm not looking for a SA pistol at all, but only a mini-carbine. The carbine-ized GK1 can still be the top dog in many respects, especially relating to power. But I sold my GK1 and I'm not looking at selling my Mordax. For some reason I just like the feel of shooting the Mordax a little better. And it is so darned accurate.

Honestly - I would hesitate on the 177. I love GK1 in .25 - super powerfull for the size. But, in 177 I thought it would give a great shot count, but even when tuned just for 13gr JSB redesigns @ 850-880fps I can barely get a mag of a 300 bar fill. Sometimes it will give a big blow of air at the end and almost completely degass. I just don't think the platform is good for the smaller caliber.
Also - in 177 - nothing barely fits snug. JSB 13gr Redesign, 16.2gr Beasts and JTS 10.4gr are all I can get to stay set in the mag.

Well I have no need for a .25.
Why would your .177 do so poorly?
The only .25 I have is a Revere, so I can understand a manufacturer putting
out a great gun in a caliber that it’s inadequate for.
Anyway it’s just a thought, figured it would have higher shot count and be quieter maybe.

Some platforms really shine in specific calibers, but really suck outside their comfort zone. The GK1 and Revere are great examples. My .22 GK really hits the spot; literally and figuratively.

At this point, to answer the OP, it remains unmatched in power, size, and weight. The Mordax is full auto but larger and 1.2 lbs heavier. The Mordax can do about 25 shots at 30 ft/lbs. The GK1 (.25) can do 37 shots at 30 ft/lbs. Top end power, the GK1 can just about double of the Mordax at the same caliber.
So both GK1 and Mordax are tops - depending on what you may be looking for.

Is the mordax beefier than the gk1 ? Looks like it. I consider that more of a micro carbine. Seem a lot to use as a true pistol.

Yes. I'd say the GK1 is designed as a pistol, convertible to a carbine. I'd say the Mordax seems to be a mini-Carbine convertible to a pistol. The design 'center of gravity' is different for each. I would love to own a Mordax for sure.

Here is my Mordax setup. Shooting H&N barracudas .22 18s at 790fps currently. Could get more power out of it but im liking the shot count. Reaching out to 104 yards on pest birds.
