Giffard 8mm Co2 rifle

No way could I afford it, but I found this post at an auction site. The listing, pics and description are too dang cool not to share.
4000psi 40-50 shots 120fpe hammerless valves and octagonal barrels were around then too, as were power adjusters, made by a subsidiary. Anyway, thought its worth sharing.

Though I've mentioned Giffards a few times in my writings as some of the most impressive and gorgeous airguns ever produced, don't believe everything you read. I seriously doubt 4000 PSI existed in Giffards' era... except perhaps underground for a few moments before natural catastrophes like volcanoes and earthquakes.

Something else I've mentioned in past writings that is particularly true in the case of Giffards, "the truth is fantastic enough".

Unfortunately the auction in your link is closed, and I could not see that Giffard to ascertain if it was a Co2, or compressed-air gun. Either way, I don't think 4000 PSI is a realistic specification/claim.

I don't understand as the pressure of CO2 is no greater than 1200 psi on a warm day. Agree with A&G that 4000 psi of air in a vintage rifle is not reasonable. Did you happen to save a screenshot of the page that you could share?

I tried the link and clicked "view this lot" pics and the story were there. And I think I recall a much nicer one someone on this forum owns but cant seem to find the post right now.
