getting started kit

Assembling a beginner kit for a newbie. What do you think of this setup?

1. gun:

1a. Benjamin Marauder BP2264S Synthetic Stock PCP-Powered .22-Caliber

https://www.amazon.com/Benjamin-Marauder-Synthetic-22-Caliber-Pellet/dp/B00AU6EICA

2. required ammunition and supplies:

2a. pellets

https://www.amazon.com/Crosman-Premier-Hollow-Point-Pellet/dp/B0039RFJI4/?th=1

2b. pellet magazine

https://www.amazon.com/Benjamin-RC2210-Marauder-Magazine-Multi-Shot/dp/B003XDWZ86/

2c. hand pump

https://www.amazon.com/Benjamin-High-Pressure-Hand-Pump/dp/B00460IFPW/

3. required scope since the Marauder lacks open sights

https://www.amazon.com/Hawke-Sport-Optics-4-12x40AO-Riflescope/dp/B073DJGYW2/

My questions are:

Q1. Is this setup suitable for a newbie meaning it is:

# extremely easy to setup

# extremely quiet (absolutely no noise or almost no noise)

# extremely easy to assemble and disassemble (ie gun, scope, mounting rings, etc.)

Q2. If the above is all good, then, is there anything required for this setup or any setup that I have omitted from this setup?

Q3. Do you agree with the setup regarding the specifications chosen and the price point by going through Amazon?

# I try to purchase everything from a single site to better track the orders and Amazon usually has great customer service, so that's a no-brainer for me.

Q4. Anything else, you'd like to add.

Thank you!

I owned the first gen wood marauder. It is a great gun. But doesn't have a reg. If you don't care about having a reg then that's fine. But having a reg is better. Its like a gun that the shell is fill with the same amount of powder. So all your shots are constant. The avenger is $300, have a reg, and just as accurate and better than the marauder.

As for hand pump, the benjamin hand pump ar $199, you could of add a little more money and get the hill pump. The hill is the best hand pump you can get.

Don’t forget a cleaning kit and some maintenance lubricants like ballistol, a pull thru barrel cleaner, and some silicone oil.

gotta set them up with targets as well.

whatever hand pump you get, get the reseal kit for it, and a small tub of silicone grease.

depending on the scope objective size, you will need medium to high rings so the magazine clears the scope.

I've just read some comparisons between the two and I think I'll stay with the Marauder. The most important reason here is that the Marauder is much quieter than the Avenger. On that note though, would you feel that adding a Neil LDC to the Marauder would be warranted in order to make the Marauder even more silent. OR do you feel that it is silent enough out-of-the-box for most users?

Hmm, I'm not sure if you're referring to this:

1. https://www.amazon.com/Hill-Pump-MK4-4000-PSI/dp/B077D86DGH

Or this:

2. https://www.amazon.com/Air-Venturi-Pump-Hill-Hand/dp/B08HV8Z8LV/

I'm reluctant to get the second one, because the reviews are not good for many of the Air Venturi pumps or products. I'm nervous about the first link, because it ships from Amazon UK, which could cause issues with shipping costs if there is a problem with my order later.

sounds good to me, but not a big fan of syn stocks i think wood actually makes a gun more consistent .. a 4-16 side adjust scope will give alittle more flexibility imo, westhunter is a good option ..rings can be tricky to get just the right height, but generally a medium ring .. and a benji pump is nice, but if i was getting another handpump id get a 50$ chinese one these days .. put the savings towards a yongheng and bottle later ...

The marauder is more quiet than the avenger. Even so, I will use a silencer on my marauder to quiet it down even more.

The benjmain pump is ok, but after a few months mine got really hard to pump. Prymaid air sell the hill mk5 with filter for $250 free shipping. The benjmain pump doesn't come with one. There is also a air venturi copy of the hill pump, not sure if its as good but both look identical.

Soo... much better than a hand pump it is.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WVXHX17

If you still choose the hand pump I would get it off of eBay it so much less expensive even for the name brand units.

The only other thing I would question is whether the scope mounts are high enough for the scope to clear the magazine you probly won't know until it is in your hands.

Other than that it looks to be a good starter set up.

Beginner,

My first thought after reading your post was, wow, this could be done a lot cheaper. Then I saw the wisdom of using Amazon with its outstanding customer service. If you have a problem with anything, the seller won't correct, Amazon is likely to send you a new one while you keep the original. I'd agree with the others on a $50 Chinese handpump from Ebay, they work fine and eventually you'll most likely move up to a HPA compressor anyway. Hawkeye, one of our members, did an excellent review today of a Sniper scope. Check it out, you could save $30, and still use Amazon. I agree with ImpactX on having a regulator, Benjamin Marauder has a regulated model, Field and Target Model, I think, but will cost more and might be wood stock only. Best of Luck and Welcome to the Addiction, WM

From my newer prospective I would get a regulated rifle as your shots are more consistent throughout the fill and your not dealing with the air pressure bell curve. Not to mention how adjustable the regulated rifles are for FPS, shot count and are easy to be fine tuned into real tack drivers. I purchased the Avenger and hand pump it to 4350 with a $50 Amazon China hand pump, I could stop at 3000 or 3500 psi if I wanted but I find it no big deal to pump to 4350 plus I like the 80 shots per fill.

I put a Buck Rail moderator on my Avenger which quieted the report down a bit, a Donnyfl might do more. One thing you have to remember is a moderator quiets the report of the rifle but will do nothing for the action, the Avenger makes a good pop when the hammer falls but only sounds loud because your ear is right by the hammer. I tested the dBA 20 feet in front of the muzzle and 5 feet to the right, the fence between my yard and the neighbor with a real decimal meter not a cheese phone app and got a reading of 95 dBA with the Buck Rail moderator.

I get the worry about noise, I think the most noise I generate is the pellet wacking the cardboard target 21 yards down range. No air gun is going to be supper quiet and just wait when you first shoot it and the first 2 to 6 shots sounds like a 22 LR cracking off until the oil and grease gets burned out of the system. I knew about the first couple loud shots from my other rifles so I took extra care in cleaning up the Avenger before shooting it for the first time and I still got about 3 loud cracks.

The only other thing I would question is whether the scope mounts are high enough for the scope to clear the magazine you probly won't know until it is in your hands.

depending on the scope objective size, you will need medium to high rings so the magazine clears the scope.

@dizzums, @Bigragu & @biohazardman - The scope I selected comes with rings already, so won't that fix the issue you all are referring to here?

The benjmain pump is ok, but after a few months mine got really hard to pump.

I hope it's not a big problem since I only intend to use the rifle once or twice a week (or less) for pest control.

What do you think about this kit? I selected 2.0 in the Style box, but I'm not sure what the difference is between the two. Do you know?

Regarding silicone oil, I read this article that instructed me to read the Marauder manual to ascertain which oil I should purchase for my air gun. The manual recommends RMCOIL oil, so that is what I'll go with:

Beginner-shot,

i have the regulated FTT Marauder and if looking for shot count (hand pumping) would recommend it. I shot over crony with Crosman 14.3 pellets and got 868 FPS avg over 70 shots before falling off reg. I hand pumped with China hand pump to 3000 psi easily. But it is a lot of pumps. It also does not seem to be pellet picky so the Crosman pellets work well. It came with a centerpoint 4x16x40 scope and high rings. I was able to switch to medium height rings which I prefer. Note also that the FTT model (at least) has the picatinny rail vs the dovetail for scope mount so pay attention to the one you buy for scope mounts.

You've convinced me, so, I'm going with a much cheaper model here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08LPL57WD/

But the choice of scope and mounts is really causing me headaches. In regards to specs, I need everything to fit properly right out of the box. I'm thinking of just going with this option that a seller recommended in the Comments section of the Marauder purchase page on Amazon.
