Getting My FWB 300 Shooting Again

Decided to run a bore worm thru the barrel today. Got very little gradoo out of it. Barrel lands look great.

OK - It's done! What a gem of a springer. I bought this gun a few weeks ago and while it looked practically unused it was very gummed up and the breech seal and buffer were shot (original). The sledge was frozen....well you know what I'm talking' about here. Now it is reborn and looking good. Shoots as fine as frogs hair. Here are the photos I promised:

Thx for the kind words. This fine gun cleaned up pretty good. New buffer and breech seal was a snap to put in but man, was it ever a challenge to get it taken apart and disassembled. I can tell you that I'm a much wiser man now!

Beautiful restoration. The metal parts look extremely nice. As far as springs are concerned, I would stick to the factory parts. Some have played with aftermarket springs and squeezed a few fps more out of their rifles, but the additional stress isn't worth it. I have four FWBs and have overhauled two of them. One, I just replaced the seal and buffer and reinstalled the origninal FWB spring, since I didn't have a new one on hand. It was about 3/8 shorter than new. Another rifle, I replaced the seals and springs. Surprisingly, the one with the old spring shoots faster than the rest. Go figure.

That's some gorgeous blued steel on your gun. Enjoy your 300 for what it is intended to be and shoot another gun when you want more fps.

I agree with you 100%.
I put in new factory springs. The old one was about an inch shorter. Put in Macarri buffer and breech seal. Was a snap. The blueing is really nice but the gun isn't perfect. But, for a gun this old it's very nice and the stock is also incredible for its age too. When I get it out it just feels new. The only part that needed much attention was the outside of the compression tube. Had to polish out some minor surface corrosion on the tube bottom (not visible once re-assembled into the action). The piston is perfect as is the inside of the compression tube. Cocking cycle is smooth and the firing cycle is...buttery and quiet. I'm thrilled with this airgun.Bill

Variety is the spice of life. Keep the 124 even if you're not shooting it much right now. You'll come back around to it and regret selling it if it's gone.

Didn't realize this but my 300 has an adjustable aperture peep sight on it. Was wondering if this was a standard diopter sight or an add-on?

@jps2486 thanks for your comment. I was reading some old posts on another site and someone had remarked that some of the FWB 300 models were hypbrids and had elements of the 300S. Did't know if all the 300S models came with the adjustable aperture but I owned one had it.

Well, took the 300 out in the back yard and measured out 25 yards to the target. Started sighting the 300 in with the Leupold 3-9 x 33 EFR. zero'd it in pretty quickly. Boy is the trigger ever feather light! I may need to firm it up just a frog's hair. Fun afternoon free shooting and hitting 10X's. Now I need to find me a decent chronograph to see more what the gun is doing.
