Found a gently used gen 2 .177 mrod on another forum.
Bought it on a whim.
Wasn’t even looking for one.
I just happen to see the listing.
I really don’t need one.
I already have one.
But I thought it would be nice to have if someone wanted to shoot FT with me.
(The above is the logic I used on my wife. I know you guys don’t need convincing but I thought I should share it as you might find it handy someday
)
but I digress....
I decided to do a shot string on it to find the fill/re-fill “sweet spot” and then go out and do some range work.
i know everyone has their own set of parameters when doing a shot string. Mine, for no particular reason, is a 10fps on the SD.
This being a new-to-me gun, I filled to 3000psi.
I noted the pressure after each 10shot magazine so I could find the pressure at the top of the curve and work my way up and down the pressure readings to find the most shots with the flattest curve in a given pressure parameter.
(I’m thinking about doing a quick YT video for the new guys to help them understand how to find the optimum fill/re-fill pressure.)
If you can read my notes, I put 110 shot across the crony. The ES is 88.26 with an SD of 25.61 which would still make this an excellent backyard plinker.
In the second picture if you can make out in the notations, the sweet max fill is about 2650psi where the FPS is about 880. The peak FPS of 923 is about 2000psi with the refill psi I’m putting at about 1650psi at a velocity of 898fps.
So to summarize....
883fps at a max fill of 2650psi shot 26
923fps at a nom fill of 2000psi shot 70
894fps at a end fill of 1650psi shot 91
netting about 65 shots within about a ES of 40fps for only 1000psi.
i have no idea what the HS, HT or VS settings are. I really don’t want to mess with it right now. It’s not important at this point.
Now to head to my range and shoot some groups.
This just reconfirmed to me Marauders are an excellent value and there is no real need to throw more money at it to make it “better”.
