Benjamin Gehmann 510 adapter

Thank you. I haven't bought the Gehmann I linked to. So, no money lost. I appreciate your knowledge, and pointing me at the correct iris as well.

If you use the PH510 you will not need and adapter for the Williams sight

Creedmore shows the PH510 in stock

It makes for a neater, more compact installation. I would advise going with the PH510, unless you plan on swapping it with a sight that uses the 5.9x1 metric thread.

Perfect. Thank you.

It depends on what you're trying to do, and how much money you want to spend.

If the Williams is absolutely the only sight you will ever use it on, by all means buy the PH 510.

But if you own any German sights, or even entertain the possibility for the future, to me it makes more sense to get the plain 510 plus the adapter. Then you just need the one pricey little iris for any gun you are ever likely to own. There is no optical disadvantage whatsoever with a non-magnifying unit like the 510.

adapter or no adapter
now that is an interesting question the length may not hurt you
as a William sight mounts to the dovetail it will be as far back as it can be
now compare that to a diopter and the difference could be what 1.5 to 2.5 inches
now with the standard threads of a 510 they make extensions so you can get closer to the iris
would the adapter and the 510 give you more options then a PH510 maybe
do you have any other rifles that have diopters that you could move the 510 to as a wandering eyepiece
it is something i would have to think about and the adapter would act as a back mounting sunshade
just a thought

Mike beat me to it Hi Mike D.

I have two FWB 124's with Willams sights one with the PH510 one with the adapter and the standard 510 with adapter. The PH looks neater and more compact. The standard and adapter looks more fragile and as said moves the iris back about 3/4 inch, maybe a little more closer to the eye. I really have not compared the adapter to see how effective it might be as a sunshade.

Another alternative to fit Williams and other US sights is the classic US-made Merit iris. Varioius models are available and their "#4 Hunting Disc" is very compact at only 1/2" diameter; they make bigger ones too as you can see (the Gehmann units are typically about an inch in diameter, reflecting 10-meter rifle competition rules).

This pic show an older Gehmann iris mounted to a Williams with the adapter. If the iris threaded directly into the sight, the assembly would only be shortened by 7mm (i.e., the length of the threaded rear collar of the adapter), and of course you can move the sight backward or forward as needed to adjust the aperture-to-eye distance as needed. The rifle is an ancient HW 55S; on newer HW's you might appreciate the extra length since the sight has to mount forward of the safety button.

Thank you for all the great information. I had no idea how much variance there was in this single topic. You could really go down a rabbit hole if you are chasing accuracy nirvana.

I only have the one Benjamin 392 that is used for fun in the backyard. I think I will try the the PH510 to see if it will help in tightening up groups at 30 yards.

One of my friends really loves that rifle, and it is a small price to pay to increase his enjoyment.

now with the use of the adapter you can adjust the iris to your eye by using these
now what you like i may not and vice versa
but the ability to adjust to you needs i feel is important
also, i believe a rubber eye cup will also help
options, how many do you have when deciding a part for your gun or anything
the closer the iris is to your eye the small the iris setting will be

Yeah, I had serious health issues. Friend had to sign a DNR before they would pull the tube to see if I'd survive. Sort of changes perspective on life.
🤣
So, did you? Survive, I mean 🤪 :ROFLMAO: (Glad you're back again). Health scares have a tendency to give us a bit more gratitude, bit less attitude. Stay safe & shoot straight brother!
