gatewaytoairguns contact email?

I was banned for 3 months after using a VPN. Eventually it was rectified. I didn't much care as with our small community most good topics and ideas find their way around. Plus the feel here is a bit less restrained/censured.

Banned for using a VPN? Seriously? What was the logic? Is Dave monitoring people's IP addresses now?

I'm saying that's how it happened for me. I consider it a glitch, nothing more.

Using VPN seems to get you banned for some reason. Switch back to "normal" connections, delete GTA cookies, restart browser and you're good to go again. It's like this with Firefox atleast, I don't remember getting banned with Chrome.

Emphasis added. This is a means to track those users who have been banned but are trying to create a new account under a different name. Browsers will typically report the IP address of the PC on the local network rather than the VPN gateway address. Those addresses are not unique on the Internet and therefore can not be used to track a specific user. The public address is used to track the specific person/user. Most ISPs assign addresses via DHCP; however, they try to keep those addresses "sticky" by associating your public IP address with the MAC address of your router/modem in the DHCP server. You can't keep track of the public address from the browser when the user is using a VPN. You have to actually look at the connection log itself. If you are remote hosting that involves connecting to the server and checking web server logs.

So it is not a glitch, it is ... meh ... it is foolishness borne of paranoia.

Dave is no longer owner now. Travis from JSAR is new administrator/owner.
