"Hello, my name is John, and I'm a gun addict."
"They deserve to live here too. They were here before us."
That was my attitude when I moved into my new home back in 1999. Ground squirrels were quite plentiful. They could be seen running all around the neighborhood. I thought nothing of them until one day a new family of fur bearing critters were burrowing under the house and into the front yard. Time to reconsider that "they were here first attitude." A trip to Big 5 and I was the owner of a Beeman break barrel 177. No big deal, just need the one gun to take out a few vermin. I can handle it. I had been an owner of a bb gun as a child and a single shot 20 gauge. So I knew my way around shooting. But it had been decades since I played "guns." At the time I still didn't to wear glasses, so I was fine with the iron sights.
Little did I know, nor expect, to get a rush like a drug addict discovering his first glorious "buzz." In the backyard I could see a squirrel sniffing around in the garden looking for something to ravage. I put it in my sights, it was about ten yards away. I squeezed one off and it was a direct hit. The adrenaline rush was instant, and a shooting addict was born that day with just the pull of a trigger.
Within a year I had an RWS 54 in 22 cal. An Air Airms s410 soon came after that. I went all around the county seeking new place to pull the trigger on my new found "buddies." Next came a Ruger 1022T. Then came a Savage 22mag(which didn't shoot straight at all). The disease continued to progress until I moved up to a top level Anschutz 22mag (the good poop-). Then came the 223 Tikka, then a CZ in 204, then a CZ 221 fireball, then another Anuschutz 22lr, then another CZ but in 17HMR, then another Anschutz in HM2. My father in law gave me a collection of old WW1 and WW2 rifles. Then the handguns...Glocks, Rugers, Sig Sauers, ranging from 22lr up to 44mag. Now my safe cannot fit even 1 more gun(I need new one of those now). My garage is filled with reloading equipment, powder and who knows whatall having to do with shooting. The fishing equipment craze is another chapter to this book, but that's for another forum.
Now, its back to square one with the air rifles again. I blame my neighbor. He called me up a couple of weeks ago to get some advice on a compressor to go with his new Sig 22cal he just ordered. One wiff of the new gun oil and the craving was back.
