Garmin vs Athlon Chrony

Ok I will agree that deleting sessions is a pain in the butt to do one at a time, but I still like it and will continue to use it
I think I’ll swap my garmin for an Athlon just because of the app… I can’t fathom why they can’t let you create profiles for guns and ammo… renaming every session manually and entering the same thing over and over and over again is just… I wanna say 90s tech but probably even then that would have been annoying. Same with starting sessions only on the device. Those would be very simple fixes in the software/app I guess and no idea why they wanna stay antiquated.

I think it's the opposite. Don't say it a crappy app just because a feature is missing. Yes, you do have to delete sessions one at a time. Part of the rationale is so you don't delete an important session. Many, many apps take this same approach.

I don't know how you can get an app that is a lot simpler to use and still provide all the data, WITH the added option to export it to your computer so you can do whatever you like with it.

I also don't know how a company, of any kind, can make an app that suits everyone.

That’s fair. But profiles?! Like, saving a specific rifle and ammo that you can select when starting the session (from the app)?! Those things could be included without changing the app as such. Meaning you could keep using it the way it is. Or, if someone would want to, they could save a rifle as a profile. Or save their usual (or custom) ammo to use during sessions… like, it’s not a mutually exclusive either or.

I just got home from doing some shooting and I use the Garmin all the time, I like the fact I can track the speed when adjusting the regulator or the power wheels, I then use that information to plug into the ballistic apps I use Chairgun Elite and have the MTC Ballistic range finder, which is nice as I can put in different scopes unlike the Althon App., now it would be nice if the Garmin would be able to sync too the MTC or Chairgun app but that's fine, the Althon does sync but if you are using another scope you are currently stuck with Althon Scopes. I get what need for using my Range finder and use Chairgun for further information that the MTC App does not do, or I have not figured out, yet.
End of the day we are never going to the get the perfect App for shooting.
If I was looking at another chrono I would be looking at the Lab Rader LX, that one has a lot of information when you are using it, down range speed, BC calculator and this is all helpful as I currently use a another chrono down range to get a more accurate BC #.

Not sure if the lab Rader LX is available as it was on back order last time I looked

Yeah o hear you. But then, I don’t want/need the perfect shooting app. Well, I’d take it, but that’s not my gripe with the garmin app. I just want to have profiles… Select gun, select specific ammo, start session. That’s all I’m asking… And maybe record time of the shots so I can see whether there’s a reg refresh issue…

I don't believe the Athlon calculates BC. That is built in to the pellet profiles that come with the app.
I was mistaken. I thought that of the two, that the Athlon calculated BC. I don't know why. I guess the LabRadar LX and the FX True Ballistics are the compact Doppler-based chronographs that calculate BC.

In regards to the Athlon Rangecraft Chronograph I found a link to a software update fixing connectivity issue with the Athlon app on CameralandNY's site with the following note:

"For a little while Athlon has had a few issues with connectivity using the chronograph and the app. Both, as standalones, work great but at first Athlon had a server issue and the fix for it created other issues such as logging into the app and connectivity. Below you will find the link to their google drive with the instructions to Athlon's first firmware update.

With this first firmware update it will fix that issue and a few other little things as well."

On the above linked page there is a Google Drive link to the first Athlon Rangecraft firmware update for owners of the earliest units. I figured someone may need this info. Has anyone seen any software updates yet? If so, which firmware version are they on?

Edited to add link from Athlon site:

There is a video demonstrating the firmware upgrade process on this page

FYI, if you haven't installed the latest Athlon firmware yet, you should do it. It's hard to tell that a new one is available in the app because the button always looks grayed out after connecting, but if you tap it the install dialog will come up.

I haven't done a lot of testing, but my initial results show that my missing shot strings have been fixed in the app after using the new firmware.

I waited and waited on a new chronograph. Once people started reviewing the models I chose the Garmin.

It does exactly what I need when I need it and it has been bullet proof so far.

I got a deal on Amazon with my prime points for the Garmin. I found a dealer selling it with a nice case and when the dust settled it cost me $175 with the extended warranty.

I would purchase the Garmin again even at full cost.
