For the last couple months my household has had issues with critters getting into the garbage cans on the deck. I originally thought it was only skunks because I work nights and at least once a week for the last two months I've come home to a skunk on my deck which leads to a call to dad who comes running out the door with his 22 pistol and missing them multiple times as they run across the yard. So to combat this problem I bought some wet cat food and set it up at the bottom of the hill where i had been seeing them in the yard and sitting out there for hours on end. This ended up yielding me one young skunk in the past two weeks. I even had set up my 25 fx streamline to where I sighted it in at the same spot I was putting the bait out waiting for them. Last night my began early I wanted to try getting them to smell the bait before they even came out of there den. I started hearing rustling in the leaves a little after 10 p.m. Last night and thought I saw something so I turned on the flashlight and too my surprise there was a raccoon with its head in the bait and I suppose this makes sense because I wasn't sure how the skunk was knocking the cans over to get into the garbage so I lined up right between the eyes and it was lights out for the coon.
I waited a couple hours before I was beginning to think about calling it a night until I heard something to my right. So I turned on my flashlight and looked over to see a skunk standing about 10 yards from me right next to the vehicles. I began to think oh no this isn't going to be good and I just watched it waiting for it to move away from the vehicles far enough for me to not fear me or the vehicles being sprayed. It must have heard me because it looked up at me and then started running. It stopped right before going into the woods and that's when I lined up behind the shoulder and took a shot. I heard the thump of the pellet hitting it and saw mist come out and I was so relieved. I waited a little bit and walked towards where I shot it and shine the flashlight in the woods looking for it but could find it. I wasn't about to go in after a potentially wounded skunk so I waited till morning and decided to go out and look. It had only made it about 5 feet before expiring. It was a good night for the streamline!
