Hello everyone, 
I am new to this forum and to BB guns. I was upstate last weekend and I fell in love with shooting an air gun. 
I am from Brooklyn so my question is this: Can I go to an air gun store and buy a gun(Gamo PT 85) ? Will they ask me to present an ID?

I do not believe so, but then I'm not from NY. Still, I don't know of any State (and definitely not the Feds) that classify a .177 CO2 pellet pistol as a firearm. Not only does it NOT use any explosive method to propel the projectile, but it is below the .18" floor that some States use to even begin considering a shooter to be eligible for licensing. A Gamo PT 85 is basically a piece of sporting equipment, much like a golf putter or a basketball so far as the States are concerned. *** THIS IS MY OPINION BASED UPON WHAT I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE PAST 10 MONTHS OF STUDY! *** Best if you confirm with the pistol seller when you go to look over the merchandise.

Ironlion's analysis is interesting but unfortunately not correct. You need to check each state and local area's laws. There may be special restrictions in NYC. New Jersey treats airguns as if they were firearms so the same laws apply to them. It can get tricky.

Yep certain states have restrictions,mostly in high crime areas ,such as in parts of DC. Philly, Baltimore, and NY ,and more . ,theese areas are also marked for no internet sales ,

Hat tip to the posters who corrected my erroneous conjecture. Still and all, I hate Hate HATE that "local laws" so often try to smother certain localities with legal bubble wrap as a means to fix societal problems.

Any projectile weapon, including sling shots and blow guns are illegal to have own or use in NYC. I'm sure Uzi is aware. But sure, you can go buy one outside of city limits but bring it inside NYC proper and you are breaking the law.
