Gamo Whisper - not firing - O-ring help?

I have a Gamo 6110063254 Whisper Fusion Mach 1 Air Rifle .177 Cal; it stopped working. Without a pellet, if I pull the trigger, it completes a shot with the correct noise/feel; with a pellet, it makes a thunk-click-click-click noise (and the pellet doesn't fire). My guess is that ithere's no seal, and the O-ring is busted. However, when I look at it, the o-ring appears to still be there. There's a ring that shows wear on the barrel, that doesn't line up to anything on the o-ring that is there - it looks like something fell off.

B is the o-ring and seems fine. A is pointing at a line of wear, that doesn't line up next to B when the gun is closed.

Do the tissue test to see if there is air leaking at the breech. If you lay a tissue over the breech and shoot and there is little or no air leakage you may need a new piston seal. If it is still under warrantee I advise you to call Gamo tech suppt. The Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 comes with a 5 year factory warrantee. Also make sure you have a good lock up. I lube the lock up plunger on a regular basis and make sure is closes completely before each shot. But. If you are not moving the pellet at all I highly doubt the breech seal is causing it. Also, be double sure there isn't something lodged in the barrel such as another pellet.

My guess is that while 'shooting without a pellet' (something that should NEVER be done with a springer) you are simply hearing what ever function the compression spring/cylinder still has. And with a pellet... the pellets is providing enough back pressure to make the broken spring and thus very low compression more obvious.

I have not had a springer in several years, and only one ever broke, and that was even years earlier so take my guess as you see fit.

No back pressure from a pellet 'sealing' the barrel will simply let the inner tube (not sure what name to give it) slam into the breach end of the comprsesion chamber, and let the spring rebound like crazy.

A true springing guy can explain it better I''m sure. Ah... if the old yellow were only easy to search.

You really need to go look for youtube videos or posts on how a springer operates...

That's not a dig, just education....

@profsrgary, what is the pistol seal on the gun?

@JCD, it sounds like you think this may be a broken spring? And, forgive my ignorance; why never shoot without a pellet on a springer?

It is under warranty, I will call them on Monday.

Your rifle doesn't have a spring, it has a gas piston with a seal on it to keep the compressed air from going the wrong direction but forces it towards the chambered pellet. If the seal is defective even though the piston is operating properly the air won't travel the direction needed to propel the pellet. From what you are saying is sounds like the problem will require returning to Gamo. Give them a call and be courteous and I confident they will take care of you. As I look at your pic I see the area that you refer to as wear. Mine is the same. Also as I look at your pic I see something in between the plunger that locks the barrel in place and the pellet. Make sure that area is clean as that is where the pin will be when the barrel is closed.
