Gamo vs Cometai

"Have a look at extreme bench rest and look at their groups."

Well, yeah, thou$ands of dollars worth of gun with "pro" shooters. Have a look at ISSF 10M air rifle (one of my playlists https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLi0zbA6eRsL_G-Ffchm1Fe590v6ZfICdg) for some real accuracy.

"This is not typical accuracy, and that is a Gamo representative."

He was probably a fine shooter before working for them. As far as "typical accuracy", one only has to look around to realize that folks generally aren't.

"probably cherry-picked out of Lord knows how many groups."

Nothing wrong with that. I wish all of life would allow do-overs until I get it right! :)

But I get your point and agree with you in spirit. One just has to be careful not to mentally toss out the proper with the fluff.

Like I said, cherry picked.

If you can really do it, take it to extreme benchrest with your cheap breakbarrel.

unless it’s a perfectly calm day I bet you won’t be on paper.

"Cherry picked"? If you're referred to the video I linked to of mine, that was the first time I'd shot that rifle, other a few rounds to sight-in.
But hell, that's 30-feet, I can throw darts and hit the bull at that distance. No scope tho', just used the fiber-optic sights.

I probably would pick a calm day for that challenge. 100-yards is hardly extreme, but I'll certainly group less than 6" right after sighting in. Tighter as I practice more.
Hopefully I'll be back later with some great footage I cherry-picked. (You can attempt to climb Mt Everest 100 times, but only need to do it once to count.) :)

kelvin- do you represent Gamo, in any way, have they ever offered you anything?

pdxFrank- same question.

I got no game with anyone. Don't get paid to promote, I just plug what I own usually, unless it's crap. But I review fairly either way. I do get Amazon associate kickbacks for links to the stuff I use. Which nets me about 5 bucks a month, lol.

Between powder-burners and air-guns, I've owned at least 50 in the past decade, used and sold most, and always looking to try something new. I don't care who makes it, long as it goes BANG! :)

All I am saying is, if you really got an MOA shooter at 100 yards right there, put your money where your mouth is.

I’ll pay your way. Under the condition, you pay me back plus pay my way if you and the gun don’t hold up to the things you are posting :)

I assume that's to me. I don't know yet. Thus the word "challenge". :) But I certainly think it's possible.

No bet, as I'd hate to take your money, but I'll document it as well as I can.

To be clear;

Gear: My choice of cheap* break-barrel, my choice of scope, bench-rest or prone, target of my choice at 100-yards**.
Goal: Sub-1inch 5-shot group, documented. So basically, hit the equivalent of five dimes from about

*How cheap? From what I gather in your POV, pretty much any Gamo break-barrel qualifies. Let's say, sub-$300US?
**Probably outdoor, but I will take advantage of 100-yards indoors any day!
Might be 100 "meters" (which I'd prefer, and not that much further) instead of yards, depending on circumstances.

Anything you want to add to that? I might be more inclined if someone says I can't do it! lol :)

I really don't think it's an unreasonable accomplishment. I'm sure many have done it many times before. But a good one to have off my shooting bucket-list.

Stipulations? Use the cheap breakbarrel the way it came, and do it more than once. One lucky group doesn’t count.

i am tired of the lies and misinformation on the web.

it is unethical and honestly just makes me hotter than a tick

Well, okay. But you know how it goes... later someone says "But you said or did or didn't do or or or...". And the challenge sputters.

Man, if you're tired of lies, misinformation, lack of ethics, then turn off the computer, your TV, your phone, and any other source than your own direct senses. And doubt them even then. 'Cause it's a full-time job just separating the truth from pure fiction now-a-days.

The only change to the stock gun I asked was a scope. I'm almost 60, can barely see 100-feet let alone 300 of them. :)

Some might be out there to earn some sort of public kudos. Me, got nothin' to prove to strangers. I just do what I do for the fun of it.

I love sharing the experience, but I won't change my methods just for the doubters. I have a wall full of shooting awards and a drawer full of qualification certificates. $1000s of dollars and 100s of hours of expensive training to make me a better shooter in the past 10 years or so. I can't say it's all stuck well in my brain, but it's certainly helped. :)

"Forget it man I have made my point and I am done with this one."

Yeah, from what I can tell, the point you made is that you're a grumpy arm-chair expert.

I thought it was going well until you turned into a sour-puss.

Funny a guy spreading lies and misinformation to lure people in a buy, which pays for his airgun hobby plus lunch once a month? Trying to give me advice and call me an armchair expert.

Good luck sir

You really have some weird filters installed. To the point of being clueless.

What lies? I still haven't figured out specifically what you mean there.

Lure to buy what? You make any money by telling someone how much you like your car? I've never made a dime from any gun company. Although in the right circumstances, I wouldn't turn it down.

lol, pay for my hobby? My hobby takes about $100 a month in ammo, co2 and targets. I'd be in poverty if I lived off of my Amazon links.

I'm not sure what "advice" you didn't like, but so far, at least I've shown I can shoot. Where's your pics/vids? Get outside and shoot instead of getting worked up over social-media.

And where the heck you eating lunch for five bucks? Sack lunch maybe. :)

If nothing else, guilty by association. Then assasinate [sic] the character of anyone posting what might be detrimental to your side hustle.

you have zero credibility.

I am really done with the thread now, have fun getting the last word in the thread. I can’t wait for it!

It's only the "last word" because somewhere along the line you got offended and offensive. You like to shoot and run. Then come back and do it again.

I don't know what "character" you have outside this thread, but calling you a sour-puss or a grumpy troll is totally appropriate based upon your responses. "Assassinate"? Hardly. At least I didn't straight-up call you a liar.

So, before, I told "lies", but now, it's "lies by association"? WTF? Associate with whom? You really think me a ***** for some company? I'm not.

That's the only logic I can come to since you are so ambiguous. Perhaps you're relying more on your impressions than the facts.

Side-hustle? You really have no idea of what you speak sir. I'm a full-time firearms instructor. My side-hustle is computer repair. My hobbies are ham-radio, air-guns and darts. I'm also a pretty decent chess-player and can solve the Rubik's Cube in under five minutes. There, now you know more about me in once paragraph than you ever have. And probably ever will now that I see we're not compatible.

I may have zero credibility to you, but that's because you don't know me. A weekend here and I'll straighten out both your opinion and your aim.

Thread was going nicely, sorry it didn't end that way.

All my best, for what it's worth Bryan.

It’s important to point out that I have no links with Gamo whatsoever. When I moved to Portugal I had to leave my 3 BSA’s in England.... too much red tape moving around Europe even with low powered air rifles. When I got here I was surprised to find the laws are a lot more relaxed and you’re permitted to own air weapons not exceeding muzzle velocity of 1150 ft/sec... I saw the Gamo 440 online at €189.00, not too expensive so having so much space to shoot in, nearly 4 acres I ordered it. The build quality is no where near as good as my BSA Goldstar for example but the performance is far superior... but the trigger mechanism woodwork etc are not. So I liked around for a higher quality gun and was impressed with the Cometa Fenix 400..., so I bought it.

Now to the original point of my post and question.... Gamo state a muzzle velocity of 220 m/sec.... Cometa state a muzzle velocity of 275 m/sec (with lead pellets). So why does does the Gamo have hugely more power and range than the Cometa? Who holds the manufacturers to account when they make these claims? I love the Cometa, it’s a beautifully finished product and a joy to use... but after the power of the Gamo it disappoints in terms of 50 yard plus performance.

There’s a great thread started and contributed by some of the best shooters on this forum in another section. They discuss the ethics of cherry picking groups to post online. My contention is that it’s up to the reader to discern. Of coarse we post our best, we’re proud. Now if we start a thread like another member started regarding doing ten, ten shot groups under a dime... also keep in mind this isn’t the benchrest thread.

Also the EU does far better at removing false claims. If I’m not mistaken they even post realistic velocity claims by law. I’d suggest if you’re tired of misinformation online to have some communications with the various YouTubers that “review” airguns. Certainly some have incorporated more criteria into their reviews (like Steve) which I find helpful, however, you simply CAN NOT believe ANY reviews accuracy claims nor debate them due to too many arguable variables.

Brian, are you saying that a gamo can’t be accurate? Did you have a bad experience? I know I am biased against Benjamin airguns but sometimes have to suck it up and believe the people who make claims against my opinions. For the price range I’d put me and a Gamo up against someone else and another gun of similar value for some fun comparison. I’d feel pretty confident I’d win in precision but wouldn’t throw a temper tantrum if I lost, I’d try LEARNING.

EDIT: just re read posts and ya I agree with your first posts Brian... ignore my questions as you already addressed them.

Could be entirely different technology in the system.

Could be that's the best number either was able to get in a lab consistently. Or the best one of the lot.

Could be a good question to ask Gamo/Cometa if you want anything but a guess, or

... better yet, test it yourself. :) The only way to tell for sure is to try both, with a chronograph, matching pellets, etc.

Me, I'm thinking, eh, 55m/sec, is it really a benefit/disadvantage for 99% of what you'll do?
Besides, doesn't more speed usually mean less accuracy, all else being the same?

I agree with you entirely. I have asked Cometa the question..., but no reply as yet.

If I was happy with 25 yard shooting this wouldn’t be an issue but long range is my thing. I like a gun that shoots fairly flat and penetrates at 50-100 yards. At 50 yards plus the Cometa only really drops a pellet on to the target through elevation whereas the Gamo shoots much flatter and harder.
