Gamo Varmint in .177

Groups with the bottom being the Diana. The Gamo didn't do terrible by comparison, but like I said my shooting felt off. Having said that they all seem to be minute of Squirrel.

Sure Gamo rifles are cheap, but that’s what got me into air guns. I still have my first rifle, a Gamo Shadow 1000. I learned so much trying to get it to shoot. Mostly that it ate scopes and the rings slipped on the rail and the bad trigger. I never tuned it, but it has the Charlie DaTuna GRT trigger mod and a Leapers one piece mount with a Swift 4-12x40 AO scope. It shoots pretty respectable with the H&N Target Trophy 8.64gr pellets.

The trigger on my Gamo doesn't feel bad. Some day I might get a trigger gauge.

You could try the screw mod and see . I left mine as is .. its a tough pull but its just a thing. Only time i really notice it alot is comming off one like the hw/r9 that i do got lite and near hair..lol.

Scope looks good . I thought on a bsa when gamo had them but always out of stock at that time in need..

Anyway enjoy.

The BEEZER is here!
Got my BSA scope today and mounted it. Started to sight it in but it decided to snow. :(
Overall I'm pretty happy with it so far. If it clears up by tomorrow I'll try again.

Does that rifle have a machined hole (stop) for the scope rings? My Gamo didn’t . I had a lot of problems with the scope rings moving on the dovetail. A one piece mount stopped that without drilling into the receiver.

The rifle does but the rings don't have a corresponding stud to fit into it. I'll have to keep an eye on that.

I've been doing a bit of 10 yard practice while reading and watching as much as I can, then in the middle of todays practice the light in my head came on.
$90. Gamo Varmint.
$100. BSA 3-9x40 scope.
7.8 grain Gamo Red Fire pellets.

I was 3 shots into my target when I remembered a couple important tips. Find the balance point of the rifle, rest it there on an open hand.
Breathe and fire. The last 4 shots landed where I wanted creating one jagged hole.

Mine (.22) liked redfires but my billfold did not.. i got redfires from gamo once and they were made in spain and vs the ones i had from walmart were nite to day. The spain ones looked good clean lubed nice. Walmarts not so.. big difference.
I dont have a gamo in .177 but .22 the cphp i shoot most all the time and in a pinch the crosman paranhas do good . I think paranhas they better fit the leade as well more uniform . But a 100 count (400) less per tin for higher price so i stick to the cphp (500) ... ( Im that cheap)
.🤤

Give a tin of them a try.

A few posts back, someone suggested cleaning the barrel --> "1) Make sure you clean the barrel"

What is the general consensus on cleaning the Varmint?
Page 19 of the manual I have says this, "
NEVER PUT ANY OIL INSIDE THE BARREL OR THE BREECH.

If no oil is to be used, how do you guys clean your air guns, this one in particular?

Thanks for any hwlp
Bob
Probly for people that spray oil in it thinking it makes the pellet go out faster. Being some gamos are popular walmart guns no telling what they see in a return gun..lol

I’d simply clean the barrel once then forget it. I use just clp then dry patches. I’ve had a lot of the hunter models, varmint being one. They all share the same tube sizing. You can buy a Jim Maccuri spring for them. His square wire spring is a great choice imo and very accurate. He also has the e3650 which is a bump up in power. I’ve used both and favor neither but smoothest is by far square spring one. I also buy a GRT trigger blade for every gamo as that transforms the entire gun. No screw mod to the stock trigger will even come remotely close and that is a fact. I also install at least a piston sleeve, you can watch YouTube videos how to do that with the cheap thin opaque dollar store cutting boards. You can try finding someone to make a spring guide or if it’s old enough, modifying the metal ones is quite easy. If it’s a plastic breech block/spring guide that makes things a little harder and a judgment call is needed or experimentation. All of that can turn the gun into a competitor so long as you’re shooting JSB exacts or HN FTTs. Some older models like crosman brown box 7.9s but not too common. My motto with gamos and any other is if it doesn’t shoot JSB exacts or HN FTTs accurate it’s a garbage barrel. I’ve gone down the false narrative of “find the right pellet” and spent hundreds at least on several guns only to determine I had garbage barrels. I will say that has never happened with any product I’ve bought that was made in Europe however.
