I have a gamo swarm maxxim that shoots jsb 15.89 in the 620 fps range. I was thinking it should be in the low 700s. Has anybody had any experience with these.

I purchased one, then returned it. Mine was in the low 700s with Crosman Premier 14.6gr pellets, so what you're getting is likely correct. Don't get too hung up on FPS..... most manufacturers overstate this metric anyway..... and when they tough it, it's often with a very light weight alloy pellet. The Maxxim I had, had many issues that I just wasn't willing to live/deal with. Really BAD trigger, that I just couldn't get adjusted, VERY loud, and grouping was awful, even close up (15yrds). I also own a Swarm Whisper, and it is easily 2X the gun that the Maxxim is..... although I returned/replaced 2 Whispers before getting a "good one". My experience with Gamo is that it seems they are "hit-m-miss" with quality..... as I said, it took the 3rd Swarm Whisper before getting what I thought was "a good one"..... that didn't display the issue the previous two had, straight outta the box.
I really like repeaters/magazine guns, just because they are so much fun to shoot....but I've not found any that I consider "accurate"..... Which brings me to.... the Sig ASP 20. It's a single shot break barrel, but after testing it head to head with a WK97, and finding that it's every bit the gun the WK is..... for HALF the money (Sig in synthetic is $350).... it's become my favorite air rifle so far. The Swarm Whisper is still here, but I find I shoot it less and less, simply because I can "drive tacks" with the Sig..... and am lucky to shoot 1 1/2" groups at 20 yrds with the Swarm Whisper.
Maybe it's horrible of me, but I purchase the majority of airguns from Amazon..... with Prime I can return just about anything, for any reason within the first 30 days. I will generally order a gun, then when it arrives, get it cleaned, and as many pellets through it as possible to "break it in", then after at least 400 rounds fired, I will evaluate it, and decide if I will keep it, or return it. I've gone through 14 different air rifles in this manner.
Based on the issues that the guns have exhibited, had I purchased them from air gun retailers, I'd either be stuck with guns that were crap, or be playing the "warranty" game of ship it back, wait, hope they fixed it, etc.

I'd say that is a little low. The last 3 airguns I've purchased had velocity on par with rating.

I ordered some different pellets. Will check those out when I get them. Also, i usually smell a burning type smell when i shoot it for a little while. Not sure if that is normal or not either.

The smell what you notice could be dieseling. According to Airgundepot.com that rifle is rated at 975 fps. But yet with a 14.3 gr pellet they only got 631 fps ! Something is not right ! One thing I will stress is that magnum airguns do better with snugger fitting pellets. I can only get around 670 fps with the 14.3 gr Crosman Premier. But with the 14.7 gr RWS Superdome and 14.7 gr H&N FTT with the 5.54mm head I'm up to 710 fps with the H&N and 725 fps with the Superdomes. This was with the .22cal RWS 34 Classic.

Shot 16 grain hades yesterday and was getting in the 650s. Ordered some lighter pellets and will see what those do.

Got some gto 11.75 today. It’s shooting those at 830fps. Still seems a little slow. Is there anything you can do to ramp these up a little bit, besides getting a new gun.

What are you trying to accomplish? Those are pretty significant velocities really. I’d just stick with what’s accurate. I’ve never payed attention to what velocity others tell me it should be. I’ve had hard hitters that I’d never take small game hunting because of accuracy issues. I’d have more confidence with a 12FPE gun I can take headshots on. But to your question, there’s not any mods I know of that can be done to increase power unless you buy a different spring/ram.

Those velocities don't correspond to the rating that's for sure. My .22cal RWS 34 will shoot Sig Wraith alloy 13.3 gr (they are listed at 12.35 gr) at 805 fps. I have some hollow point Sig alloy pellets that weigh 11.9 gr and they shoot at 860 fps. Elevation does effect velocity. I'm at 85 ft above sea level.
